Bangkok--22 Jul--Symantec Corp Norton 2009 is Redesigned to be Light on System Resources, Strong on Protection Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), makers of Norton security software, today announced the availability of the public betas of Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton AntiVirus 2009, designed to set a new industry standard for speed and performance. The beta of the award-winning product line is available for download from http://www.symantec.com/norton-beta/. The new products have more than 300 new performance-related improvements and combine all the industry-leading security features of the 2008 Norton products, but use only a quarter of the disk space, half the memory and scan twice as fast. "The new releases give users award-winning Norton security technology without a penalty to PC performance. Our 2009 products aren't going to slow down users' systems, and they aren't going to be bothered by annoying pop-ups and interruptions," said Rowan Trollope, Senior Vice President of Consumer Products. "Our goal is to create the fastest security product in the world, hands down". Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton AntiVirus 2009 include an innovative new technology called Norton Insight that reduces the need to scan files in the first place. By connecting users to the 18 million Norton Community members, Norton Insight allows the Norton security product to avoid scanning any files which are commonly found on most computers and statistically determined to be trusted. The new releases provide gamers and professional computer users with unique new features which are designed to be strong on protection but light on resources. A new silent mode suspends alerts and updates to avoid interrupting or slowing games and movies. The new user interface (UI), which is streamlined for all users, gives advanced users the ability to see "under the hood" to track detection and performance status, as well as easier access to detailed configuration settings. Key Norton 2009 performance improvements include: * Norton(tm) Insight architecture drives faster, fewer, shorter scans through intelligence-driven technologythat targets only those files at risk * One-click and one-minute complete product install * Pulse Updates -- Up-to-the-minute response time against new threats with pulse signature updates streaming in near real time. By downloading smaller and more frequent updates, users are better protected and performance is also improved. Additional performance enhancements will continue to be fine-tuned during the beta cycle.
