Bangkok--31 Jul--Krungthai Card Kandtharat Chermchitphong (middle), Senior Vice President for Public and Corporate Affairs, “KTC” or Krungthai Card Public Company Limited, recently led a forty plus party of Learn & Earn @ KTC participants and students of Had Ammara School on a trip to plant 500 avicennia alba trees at Bangpoo Resort in Muang District, Samutprakarn. The outing was aimed at restoring life to the mangrove forests, alleviating the effects of global warming, bringing back ecological balance, and encouraging young people to become more concerned about natural resources and the environment. Thailand benefits from mangrove resources both in terms of forestry and fishery. Products derived from mangrove forests contribute greatly to the Thai economy. Woods from mangrove forests are used for charcoals, foundation piles and house construction. Other products of the mangrove forests include methyl alcohol, acetic acid and crude oil. Several species of marine life use mangrove forests as their breeding and nursery grounds because of their mineral richness. The mangrove ecosystem is a good indicator in many ways. Destruction of the mangrove forests can only result in reduction or decimation of the marine life.
