Bangkok--28 Aug--UNIS Bangkok The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will launch the Trade and Development Report 2008 at a press conference on Thursday, 4 September, at 2:30 p.m. at the International Institute of Trade and Development (IDT) in Bangkok. The Trade and Development Report, launched in 1981, is issued every year. It analyses current economic trends and major policy issues of international concern, and makes suggestions for addressing these issues at various levels. This year’s report will question the traditional theoretical framework of development financing and make suggestions to improve the financing of investment with a focus on profit reinvestment and credit creation through the domestic banking system. It will also look at the need to increase official development assistance for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals as well as to increase productive capacities.
