Bangkok--8 Sep--Philips Electronics Philips awarded Best Environmental Company of the year 2008 from Netherland-Thai Chamber of Commerce and Belgian-Luxembourg/ Thai Chamber of Commerce Philips Electronics (Thailand) Ltd., is awarded as the Best Environmental Friendly Company of the year from Netherlands-Thai Chamber of Commerce (NTCC) and Belgian-Luxembourg/Thai Chamber of Commerce in the 10th Annual Business Award. Philips is the world’s leader in providing energy efficient lighting solution for home and business and implements the EcoVision program to increase energy efficiency of products and operations to save energy, save cost and combat the global warming. Business Award is the annual NTCC/ Belgian-Luxembourg Thai Chamber of Commerce Business Award Presentation to honor some of the finest companies for the way in which they excel in business. This year, there are four award categorizes; Best Multinational Company (MNC), Best Small Company (SME or start-up), Best Service Business and Best Environment Friendly Company/Project. This year, Mr. Prakorn Makjumroen, Chairman and CEO of Philips Electronics (Thailand) Ltd., receives the Best Environmental Company of the year from NTCC and Belgian-Luxembourg Thai Chamber of Commerce in the 10th NTCC/Beluthai Annual Business Award Presentation in September 4, 2008 at the Conrad Hotel. Mr. Prakorn said that “Philips is very honor to be awarded the Best Environmental Friendly Company of the year. The achievement can be attributed to the fact that Philips is committed to reduce the environment footprint in all aspects and commit to develop new energy efficient lighting innovation. In September 2007, Philips announced the program called EcoVision 4 (2007-2012) with three main objectives: to raise revenue from Green Product to 30 percent, compared with 15 percent of group sales in 2006, to invest Euro 1 billion or 47 billion Baht in green innovations and to increase the energy efficiency of its operations by 25 percent. Also, Philips offers the energy efficient lighting solution for home and business in order to tackle with the current problems including the growing demand of energy and global warming. Currently, Lighting accounts for about 20 percent of worldwide electricity consumption. If inefficient conventional lighting were switched to energy-efficient technologies, it would result in saving both energy and cost and reducing environment impact.” In mid 2007, Philips announced globally the campaign called “Make a Simple Switch” to encourage consumer to switch to save energy and environment through a simple solution by changing from incandescent lamps to energy saving ones and changing from the old lighting technology to the new energy efficient lighting technology. For home lighting, Philips introduced the simple step to save energy by simply switching from incandescent lamps to energy saving ones that can save 80 per cent of energy. This can also help reducing the environment impact since the carbon dioxide emission will be decreased by 328 kilogram per year. For business lighting, if inefficient conventional lighting were switched to energy-efficient lighting technologies, the potential worldwide savings would be about 40 percent which equals a staggering: amount of 106 billion Euros in electricity costs and 555 million tons of CO2 emissions per year or reduce the demand of 1.5 billion barrels of oil per year. In Thailand, for home lighting Philips followed the parent company’s policy by launching the campaign called “Make a Simple Switch” in 2007. The campaign aimed to raise awareness for energy efficient lighting solutions and encourage consumers to take the simple action to help reduce energy consumption by simply switching from incandescent lamps to energy saving bulbs. Philips had series of marketing activities to support the campaign. Philips decreased the price of its Essential energy saving bulb from 135 Baht to 80 Baht as well as to launch new TV advertisement to stimulate the demand of energy saving bulbs in Thailand. This helped communicating on the simple solution that everyone can do it at home to reduce energy consumption by 80 per cent, to save cost up to 80 Baht per month per bulb and to fight the global warming.In 2008, Philips joined forced with Provincial Electricity Authority and Metropolitan Electricity Authority supported by CP All Public Company Limited, to unveil the program called “Saving Energy, Saving the World” to encourage Thai consumers to switch to energy saving bulb to save energy, reduce the electricity bill and combat global warming by offering the Philips Compact Fluorescent Lamp at special price distributed to consumers nationwide through 4,300 7-Eleven outlets.In August 2008, Philips launched “Energy Saving Rice, Energy Saving Lamps” campaign to encourage Thais to become more health conscious and energy concern by eating brown rice as the polishing or whitening process is omitted, about 62 per cent of energy consumption is save and using the energy saving lamps to save the world. Consumers will get a 100-gram pack of jasmine brown rice, a product from Mongkholchaipattana Co Ltd., one of HM Private Development Projects, when buying a set of 2 Philips energy saving lamps of every color and every wattage including Essential, Genie, Tornado and a set of 3 Philips fluorescent lamp models of Philips Lifemax TLD Super 80 for every color and Philips fluorescent lamp TLD54 of 18 and 36 watt. The campaign runs between August 12 to December 5, 2008. For business lighting, Philips has continuously implemented the activities to support and educate business operators that energy efficient solutions are simple, easy and actionable and make economic sense for their business and also environmental friendly. The highlighted activities are as follows; -Philips organized the Philips Energy Efficient Lighting solution nationwide for business operators in different fields including retail business, office, hotel, factory, road and advertising signage. In 2007, Philips arranged 25 seminars in 7 provinces while in 2008, Philips would organized around 30 seminars in 10 provinces. -Philips cooperated with Energy Research Institute of Chulalongkorn University to for consulting services to improve the energy saving efficiency of the buildings for the business operators who use Philips’ energy efficient lighting solution in 2007. -Philips, Tesco Lotus, and the Energy Research Institute of Chulalongkorn University, jointedly agreen on the Cooperation in Energy Management Project to improve lighting systems in every Tesco Lotus store nationwide to achieve greater efficiency in energy saving and be more friendly to the environment. The agreement period is between 2008-2012. -The first Tesco Lotus Green Store installed with Philips Energy Efficient Lighting. Philips new fluorescent T5 with lighting control system can save up to 60 percent of energy while Tesco Lotus’ Pylon Signage installed with Philips LED technology can save up to 80 percent of energy -Philips was awarded the contract from Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) to install its 40 million Baht sports lighting system at His Majesty the King's 80th Birthday Anniversary, 5th December 2007 Sports Complex thanks in part to the long-time success of various sports lighting system installation projects in Thailand. Philips energy efficient sport lighting solution can save energy around 25 percent when compared to the previous technology -Philips offers an “End of Life” program, a recycling and disposal service management program of an end-of-life fluorescent for free of charge as well as offering green lighting products to business and factory owner. Mr. Prakorn said that “Philips energy efficient lighting solution concept is also applied to Philips’ sustainability program. Philips has long been integrating economic prosperity, environmental quality and social equity with a clear view of sustainable value creation. Thus, Philips Thailand’s sustainability program is based on offering energy efficient lighting solutions for Thai people to tackle with the complex problems which are the rising energy costs and global warming.” In 2007 Philips tied up with Provincial Electricity Authority to organize the “80 Schools 80 Communities; Saving Energy Together to Celebrate Our Beloved King” to encourage both Thai youngsters and adults alike to make a simple switch to using more energy efficient lighting solution to save energy and combat global warming. Philips replaced the incandescent lamps with energy saving bulbs, which can save up to 80 per cent of energy consumption and Philips substituted compact fluorescent lamps and Philips Lifemax TLD Super 80, an environmental friendly lamps as it contains only 3 milligrams of mercury and provide 25 per cent brighter light to 80 schools nationwide and supported compact fluorescent lamps in an exchange for incandescent lamps for community people who live near-by schools. This year, Philips organized “Philips Saves the World, Brightens Up Thai Community” project, to offer a simple solution to fight for current challenges including rising energy cost and global warming. The company installed the world-standard energy efficient sport lighting solution at the sports field in front of Din Daeng Police Station, Bangkok, which helps save the energy consumption by 70 percent to support the recreation activities and can play sport at night safely. Philips also organized series of the energy-saving activities, replacing incandescent lamps with Philips energy saving bulbs at fresh market and installed Philips energy efficient lighting system at Flat10 Dindaeng Pre School to instill the green awareness to the community and the youth to encourage them to use energy efficiently. This project would lead to the development of Thai community toward sustainability.
