Bangkok--1 Oct--DC Consultants and Marketing Communications eBay and Shopping.co.th — the Thai online marketplace by Sanook! in association with eBay — today announced the winners of Thailand’s first nationwide e-business competition for student entrepreneurs. Some 110 students from Thai universities participated in the contest, either by selling to international buyers on qualified eBay sites, or buyers within Thailand on Shopping.co.th. “We are delighted with the results that the Thai students have achieved from this competition”, said Dan Neary, Vice President at eBay. “With this experience, we hope the young entrepreneurs will go on to set up successful online businesses and sell to potentially 84 million active eBay users worldwide, and the growing Thai community on Shopping.co.th.” The eBay winning team, Super Seller 2008, walked away with a cash prize of 120,000 Baht, a Toshiba laptop, a 1-month internship at Shopping.co.th and a free trip to eBay Southeast Asia’s office in Singapore. Members of the team are Chitawee Wongtapa, Wachirapan Panyakaew and Apichat Jaiinpon from Rajabhat Institute Chiangmai, and Napawan Sartsang and Naparat Satsang from Ramkhamhaeng University. The Shopping.co.th winning team, The Best Shop, received a cash prize of 25,000 Baht as well as a free trip to eBay Southeast Asia’s office. Members of the team are Rumpika Sucharitkul from Assumption University, Keskaew Cheeppakdee from Chulalongkorn University and Monwipa Puntunin from Thammasat University. Other cash prizes included 3,450 Baht each for teams that achieved gross merchandise value (GMV) or sales above 34,500 Baht and 1,725 Baht each for teams that achieved at least 25 successful listings, within the shortest time period. As part of the competition, the two winning teams also had to maintain a positive feedback percentage of 98% and above, and have put up at least a hundred listings on either eBay or Shopping.co.th. Torboon Puangmaha, chief executive officer, Sanook Online Limited said, “Shopping.co.th was created with Thai users in mind, based on eBay’s successful model. This competition not only shows that Thai youths can compete in online trading both within Thailand and internationally, but also reinforces the growth potential for e-commerce in Thailand.” Dr. Mongkolchai Wiriyapinit, Lecturer for the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy at Chulalongkorn University added, “By participating in this competition, the students were able to apply what they have learned in school to the real world and tackle business issues such as merchandising, shipping and payment as well as customer feedback.
