Day 1 Topic 1: Servlet Basics - Building Web Applications using Netbeans and Tomcat - Overview: JavaTM 2 EE - What is Servlet? - What are the advantages of Servlet? - Example of Servlet Program - Servlet Specifications - HTTP Basics - Request and Response - The Java Servlet API - The Servlet Life Cycle - Method GET and POST Topic 2: Cookie, Session Tracking & Generating GIF Image - The Servlet Cookie API - Session Tracking API - Generate GIF Images Day 2 Topic 3: Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) - Introduction to MySQL - Brief Introduction to SQL commands - Describe JDBC - Develop two-tier database applications - Develop three-tier database applications Day 3 Topic 4: Java Server Pages (JSP) - MVC pattern, Model 2, - Model Components, View Components and Controller Components - What is JSP? - What are the advantages of JSP? - Elements of a JSP files, and tags - JSP and Java Beans - Link Servlet and JSP Topic 5: EL, JSTL and Custom Tags - Expression Language (EL) - JSP Standard Tag Library (JSTL) - Custom Tags - Brief Introduction to Java Server Faces (JSF) This course provides students with in-depth coverage of web application programming in Java using the Java Servlet API. Java servlets, a server extension technology commonly used for creating dynamic web content, are a fast, powerful, portable alternative to CGI scripts. The course begins by explaining the role and advantages of servlets. Included are lessons and lab exercises on servlet debugging, image generation with servlets, server-side includes, servlet chaining, applet-servlet communication and session tracking. This course also covers the basic concepts of Java database programming using Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) and parsing XML documents using JAXP. Finally, the course provides in-depth coverage of JavaServer Pages (JSP) and how to best use Servlet and JSP to create dynamic web content.
