Vientiane, Lao P.D.R., October 20, 2008. Lao Telecommunications Co., Ltd. (Lao Telecom), the largest telecommunication operator in Laos, today announced the official launch of the first 3G Mobile System last Friday, October 17, 2008 in Vientiane. The launching ceremony was presided over by H.E. Lieutenant General Douangchay Phichit, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Defense, In Charge Post and Telecommunications and President, LANIC.

The target customers for the 3G network include the young generation and businessmen that have a modern and busy lifestyle. These groups of people consume a lot of information and are always in constant communications.
During the first phase, Lao Telecom will provide 3G mobile service covering Vientiane and will expand its 3G service to provincial areas in 2009. Presently, Lao Telecom provides EDGE and GPRS services nationwide.
Lao Telecom is targeting 3G subscribers to reach 30,000 by the end of 2008 and expect to reach 100,000 subscribers in 2009.
