Deutsche Post World Net ranked No. 1 logistics company in climate protection
Deutsche Post World Net added to Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index — top of its industry among Global 500 companies
Special praise for transparent reporting
Membership in FTSE4Good Index confirmed
Deutsche Post World Net is a pioneer in the area of climate
protection in the transport and logistics sector, the latest Global 500 report of the Carbon
Disclosure Project (CDP) 2008 shows. The Group is the only transport and logistics service provider to be included in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index. The index lists 67 companies from the Global 500 Index that have stood out for their exemplary contributions to climate protection. The CDLI is compiled by the auditing company PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) on behalf of the CDP - a joint initiative of 385 globally active institutional investors with combined investment assets of more than US$57 trillion.
“The fact that we are the only company in our industry that has been included in the CDLI shows that we are on the right track in pursuing climate-friendly logistics,’’ said Monika Wulf-Mathies, Managing Director of Corporate Public Policy and Sustainability at Deutsche Post World Net. “We are very proud of this recognition of our work and regard it as an incentive to keep supporting ambitious climate protection goals in our industry.”
The CDLI and the CDP’s annual report are based on a broad survey in which companies are asked about their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions as well as their concrete CO2 reduction targets and climate protection strategies. Just fewer than 400 of the Global 500 companies took part in the 2008 survey. In addition to the CDLI inclusion, Deutsche Post World Net also had its listing in the FTSE4Good Index Series confirmed.
The reasons for DPWN’s inclusion in the CDLI are the company’s exemplary contribution to climate protection and its particularly transparent reporting of its own carbon footprint and the measures it has implemented. With its GoGreen climate protection program, the Group became the first major logistics provider to adopt concrete, measurable climate protection targets. The company’s CO2 efficiency - including externally sourced transport services - is to be improved by an additional 30 percent by 2020. This means that CO2 emissions per letter posted, per tonne shipped and per square meter of used space are to decline by just under one-third compared with 2007.
“The goal of our Go Green program is to make the impact of our business on the global climate transparent and measurable, and to make climate protection an integral part of our business activities - because we are convinced that improved carbon efficiency will spur growth and profitability,” said Markus Reckling, Managing Director of Corporate Development at Deutsche Post World Net and the person in charge of the GoGreen climate protection program. “Our inclusion in the CDL Index encourages us to rigorously pursue our targets.” The Group aims to reach its goals by taking such steps as investing in modern aircraft and vehicle fleets, boosting the energy efficiency of plants and
buildings, developing innovative technologies, and getting its employees involved in the effort.
