Bangkok--21 Oct--Gossip Gallery
‘Love Connexion’ . . . a duo art exhibition by Chatchai Phorkurn & Sutipong Chang-aim
October 29 through December 7, 2008 @Gossip Gallery on Sukumvit 28
Gossip Gallery on Sukhumvit 28 is proud to present the latest contemporary art exhibition by two of Thailand’s most prominent artists, Chatchai Phorkurn and Sutipong Chang-aim. This double exhibition, entitled ‘Love Connexion’, will be available at the Gallery for public viewing from Oct. 29 until Dec. 7, 2008. Although the two artists have had their works exhibited as part of a larger group exhibition before. ‘Love Connexion’ will be the first time that Chatchai and Sutipong will team up to demonstrate the love and the passion that they have for their art.
For most people, the term ‘Love’ brings to mind the relationship between a man and a woman, or perhaps the bond between a parent and a child. However, for these two artists, ‘Love’ has a more profound connotation.
According to Chatchai, ‘Love’ signifies more than friendship between 2 individuals. Chatchai believes that to be successful, any endeavor should start with ‘Love’; success will follow naturally and easily. With this philosophy, you will be a happier person and the result of your efforts will possess a quality that will speak for itself. This applies to your job, any sport that you play or even the hobby that you adore. To illustrate his belief, Chatchai uses vibrant colors to translate his imagination to his collection of 20 acrylic paintings.
To Sutipong, however, ‘Love’ has another meaning. It is the act of kindness and support that one person offers to another. Sutipong believes that we, as humans, could learn much from nature where everything is interconnected. To illustrate this point, he mixes wild flowers and rain in one his 12 oil paintings. This combination symbolizes 2-way interdependence: wild flowers need rain to survive, but when wild flowers are quenched, they release moisture into the air which later turns to rain. This natural cycle repeats endlessly - insuring that neither rain nor wild flowers exist in isolation from each other.
‘Love Connexion’ by Chatchai and Sutipong will officially open for public viewing on Wednesday, October 29. The ceremony will be also presided over by Khun Nonzee Nimibutr, one of Thailand’s renowned movie directors, and Thai contemporary artists “Silpathorn Award 2008”, honored in the fields of film, at 6:30 p.m. Interested members of the public are invited to join in this celebration and see how four simple letters could form such a powerful word, with such significant meaning to so many.
