Bangkok--22 Oct--ArtGorillas ArtGallery
Astonishment & Power
A solo exhibiton by Bogomir Krajnc
November 10 - 30, 2008
Opening reception: Tuesday, November 11, 7 - 9 pm.
ArtGorillas ArtGallery is pleased to present Astonishment & Power, the first solo exhibition in Bangkok featuring selected works by Bogomir Krajnc. The artist returns for his second show at the gallery with a collection of original paintings, drawing, mixed media and photography in a blithely manner.
Krajnc's stunningly monochrome subversive images expend upon his signature style of adding collage to his work which indicates a new level of consciousness, but in the end, there is nothing bright left.
In Astonishment & Power, Krajnc explores three types of power that he found fascinatingly important to his work. Firstly, the power of gesture which is reflexed as the importance of coincidence of each flow of ink and any thrown color. Secondly, the power of fermentation by processing and layering his vision through his work which if looked closely, everything seems to be decayed, but only on the distance the piece gets gloomily relevant. Lastly, the power of mind that keeps him alive in various difficult situations that happened to help him create most of intriguingly exquisite pieces.
About the artist
Bogomir Krajnc was born in 1959 in Celje, Slovenia. Later on he had spent 12 years in Austria, 22 years in Switzerland, and currently lives and works in Bangkok for the past 5 years. Beside working as a successful industrial designer for textile for the last 35 years, he is an independent contemporary artist working on his very personal graphic art influenced by Art Brut, Francis Bacon, Max Ernst, Zen art (Calligraphy), as well as African art.
Latterly, his collection of African Voodoo and magic figures along with his passion in African Art have literally made him realize how deep those concepts were implemented into his art since the very beginning without knowing.
Krajnc had exhibitions in Liechtenstein (Vaduz), Austria (Dornbirn), Switzerland (St. Gallen) and Bangkok. His first show was when he was only 16 where he participated in a photographic art group show.
