Bangkok--24 Oct--Hill & Knowlton In order to promote the “Bangkok: Exhibition City of ASEAN” campaign, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB, has teamed up with private sector to roll out a road show program in Vietnam. The road show aims to boost Thailand’s competitiveness in the regional exhibition industry and drive the country to be a premier exhibition destination in the region. “The Bangkok: Exhibition City of ASEAN campaign has been well received by both Thai and foreigners,” revealed Ms. Supawan Teerarat, Exhibition Director, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau. “To continue enhancing Bangkok and Thailand as ASEAN’s premier exhibition hub, we are implementing a road show to Vietnam as one of our marketing strategies to promote and create awareness for the international trade shows to be staged in Thailand. TCEB will organize the road show in Vietnam where economic and industrial development has steadily grown and is expected to continue to increase in the future. In addition, Thailand and Vietnam have established close relations through bilateral trade estimated at 5 billion US dollars in 2007, in which Thailand exports to Vietnam were valued at around 4.087 billion US dollars, compared to 3.093 billion US dollars in 2006, a 32% increase, highlighting the importance of trade relations between the two countries. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung, Chief of Vietnam Trade Representative Commercial Counsellor revealed that “Vietnam and Thailand have engaged a close relationship for more than 30 years. In 2007, Thailand ranked 6th in Asia in terms of its bilateral trading with Vietnam. In addition, Thailand has exported and imported petroleum, energy and electronics product to and from Vietnam. In 2007, Vietnam’s GDP growth was at 8.48%. Moreover, Vietnam’s Policy of Renovation policy has transformed the country from a highly-centralized economy into a market-oriented economy that has encouraged trade investors from other countries. TCEB’s road show program in Vietnam, will not only enhance the economic condition but will also strengthen relations between the two countries.” TCEB’s road show program has already been a successful marketing strategy for enhancing Thailand’s status as a world-class exhibition destination. Already more than 130 investors and trade exhibitors from 40 organizations in Vietnam are confirmed to attend the road show. In addition, TCEB will offer a subsidy program, with exhibitors able to receive 100 US dollars per person if they are able to attract at least 15 people through the 100-A-HEAD campaign. TCEB also encourages state enterprise organizations and government sector to promote their countries through country show. By doing that, TCEB provides marketing support in and outside country. This year, TCEB has supported 3 country shows from India, Germany and Korea which has been well received. Previous TCEB road shows have attracted as many as 200 trade associations from India and 350 from China. This success demonstrates Thailand’s potential to tap into the exhibition industry in the region. “Under our strategic plan for road shows in 2009, the bureau will focus on ASEAN countries covering Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam while continuing to increase awareness in India and China. TCEB will invest 10 million Baht to create confidence and help encourage trade investors to stage events in Thailand,” Ms. Supawan added.
