Bangkok--21 Nov--PITON Communications Autodesk Opens New Research & Development Facility at Fusionopolis in Singapore New facility will house the global product charter for Autodesk’s flagship software Autodesk, Inc., (NASDAQ: ADSK) opened a new Research and Development (R&D) facility at the new Fusionopolis building in Singapore. The Autodesk Singapore R&D Centre is one of the largest product IT facility among multinational companies here, and expands the Autodesk global engineering and software development programme. With more Asian companies aspiring to be at the higher end of the product value chain by doing more original design manufacturing, design capabilities are becoming an increasingly strategic differentiator for business success. As one of the company’s global R&D nodes, the teams here work closely with Autodesk’s other R&D team centres around the world — in China, India, Europe and the US - handling a variety of design software activities. These include core product development for a range of products for various industries, including Autodesk’s flagship AutoCAD software; helping develop brand new applications; developing drivers and plug-ins to extend product functionality; and working to extend interoperability between products. The centre also oversees product localisation activities by translating products into 19 languages. Speaking at the launch of the centre, Autodesk President and CEO Carl Bass described what the company sees as inexorable macro-economic trends - such as greater demand for consumer products; continued infrastructure build out; an increasing need for sustainable solutions; the proliferation of digital devices; and the rise of emerging economies — continuing to drive an ever-growing market for high-performance design tools to meet these challenges. “R&D is fundamental to our business, so that we can continue offering designers the most powerful and innovative digital design tools possible to meet these challenges,” explained Mr. Bass. “Putting our Singapore R&D centre at Fusionopolis was a natural choice for us.” The Autodesk R&D Centre at Fusionopolis joins Autodesk’s existing downtown facility in Ngee Ann City, which will continue to operate as the company’s Asia-Pacific and South-East Asia headquarters. The Autodesk R&D facility at Fusionopolis will also be a home to an active community of 130 researchers, product engineers and developers, one of Autodesk’s assets in this region that will provide a place to attract the best talent in the areas of design, computing and engineering disciplines. "We are very pleased that Autodesk is placing the global product charter for its flagship AutoCAD software in Singapore with the launch of its new R&D centre," said Mr Lim Siong Guan, Chairman, Singapore Economic Development Board. "Autodesk has grown over the years to expand not only headquarters activities but also engineering and product development operations here, affirming the confidence that they have in Singapore for design as a competitive differentiator to businesses." As a leading provider of design and engineering software for the manufacturing, building and construction, and media and entertainment markets, Autodesk has 36 offices in 12 countries in Asia Pacific, and established its regional headquarters in Singapore in 2001.
