Bangkok--11 Dec--Francom Asia
The Raimon Land-sponsored racing yacht The Heights sailed to victory in the Sport Boat Class at the prestigious 22nd Phuket King’s Cup Regatta held from November 29 to December 6 to celebrate His Majesty the King of Thailand’s 81st birthday.
Strong 10- to 20-knot winds and intense competition kept all eyes on the Andaman Sea as Phuket-based skipper Scott Duncanson sailed Raimon Land’s The Heights to first place in one of his most impressive performances.
After coming in second on the first day, Mr Duncanson along with bowman and team manager Kevin Scott ran a string of four first-place finishes to secure the top step on the podium for the second consecutive year.
Raimon Land Chief Executive Officer, Nigel Cornick, said: “We were over the moon watching Scott and The Heights team win the Sport Boat Class in such an exciting and competitive race, made even more memorable as the Phuket King’s Cup is Asia’s top regatta.”
Mr Cornick added that Raimon Land will continue as the main sponsor of the Phuket King’s Cup through 2012 as the regatta brings a positive impact to the sport of sailing in Thailand as well as to Phuket’s local economy.
“The King’s Cup Regatta is a perfect demonstration of the superb outdoors and active lifestyle available on Phuket, and as a premium property developer, having the name of one of our luxury condominium projects, The Heights, on the sails of the winning yacht is exactly the kind of lifestyle exposure we want,” Mr Cornick said.
Mr Duncanson said: “It took a day to get the team working at full speed, but for the next three days we hardly made any mistakes and sailed fast. Our tactician, Aaron Taunt, deserves a lot
of credit for picking good wind shifts. Racing was very close including one result where we won by one second after three hours of racing!”
President of the Phuket King’s Cup Organising Committee, Kevin Whitcraft, added: “The Hawaiian-like wind conditions made for some incredible racing all week long, and in spite of some initial transport challenges we had a fleet of 93 boats and some 750 world-class crew members from around the globe.”
To close this year’s competition, Raimon Land hosted an awards ceremony and party on Saturday, December 6, at the Kata Beach Resort & Spa.
After recently winning the award for ‘Best Condo Development Phuket’ at the Thailand Property Awards 2008, Raimon Land also promoted The Heights Phuket project, an effort bolstered by the winning yacht The Heights sailing its colours.
