dtac is expanding the communication channels of its network to serve the busy traffic of voice calls, SMS and MMS expected during the New Year festival especially in countdown venues in Bangkok and other provinces nationwide. This is to guarantee its customers have problem-free communications during the transition moment from 2008 to 2009.
Pakorn Pannachet, VAS Division Head of Total Access Communication Public Company Limited (dtac), says that the network enhancement in Bangkok will focus on main countdown venues such as Central World and Siam Paragon shopping centers. Elsewhere, the preparations target Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, public parks, airports, bus terminals and main roads. Between December 27, 2008, and January 1, 2009, dtac will increase the capacity of its network. It will install temporary base stations and deploy mobile units that will operate around the clock to serve congested communication traffic. The additional facilities will raise the service capacity by over 1.8 million contacts. Therefore, customers will certainly be happy with smooth communications for the upcoming New Year festival thanks to the sufficient communication channels by dtac.
SMS is another important and very popular channel to communicate best wishes for the New Year. About 80 million short messages were sent between December 31, 2007, and January 1, 2008. The figure is expected to reach 140 million for the upcoming New Year transitional period. dtac’s network will be ready to handle 400 million short messages a day for this New Year transition. Nearly 700,000 multimedia messages were sent in the last New Year transitional period. The traffic should grow to one million for the coming New Year. dtac’s network will be ready to deliver at least four million multimedia messages a day for the moment.
