“Due to the current global economic recession and domestic political situation, many industries have been hard hit, particularly tourism-related industries, which also include the spa industry. Consumers spending and the number of foreign tourists have declined, resulting in adverse impacts towards our industry. Thai Spa Association (TSPA) would like to take an active role in promoting the Thai spa industry during this difficult period, and thus have collaborated with our member spas to offer “Happy Spaing 2009!” campaign. This campaign targets both spa goers, domestic consumers and tourists, as well as those who might have never experienced spa before and would like to experience high-quality spa treatments at an affordable price. The campaign is so unique and is the first of its kind in Thailand to offer 50% discount on spa treatments during the first 2 months of 2009, thanks to the strong collaboration of our member spas.” said Andrew Jacka, President of Thai Spa Association.

About Thai Spa Association
The Thai Spa Association (TSPA) continues to be actively involved in the promotion of the Thai Spa industry on both a local and international level. Since being formed in February 2003, the TSPA has overseen significant growth and development of the Spa industry, and as the kingdom’s oldest, largest and most active spa industry association representing over 220 spa businesses. While over 90% of our members represent all the key spa industry professionals, operators and suppliers from the length and breadth of Thailand, TSPA also enjoys sound international support, with members in China, Cambodia, Dubai, Egypt, Maldives, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Slovenia, South Africa, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
The growth in international memberships has been as a direct response of the increasing demand for therapists of Thai nationality and the increased international awareness of the work of TSPA, especially with regards to the role TSPA has taken in working with all parties to establish and improve industry standards for operators, therapists and management alike. The international awareness is also partly due to the association’s magazine which has continued to develop and is now recognized as a significant source of current industry information, with a circulation of 12,000 copies. Distribution is via our mailing list, or from any of the local or regional spa industry events that TSPA is involved in. Importantly it is also distributed to all Embassies in Thailand and internationally to all Royal Thai Embassies, Thai Trade Centres and Tourism Authority of Thailand offices as well as selected travel trade and media.
Being one of the first spa associations in the region and one of the most active spa industry associations, TSPA is looked upon by others as a definite source of information from which they can learn. TSPA together with other spa leaders in the Asia Pacific region have established the Asia Pacific Spa and Wellness Council aiming to work together to increase the service standards in the spa industry. Asia Pacific is increasingly becoming the Spa and Wellness center of the world.
TSPA is continuing to work on a variety of projects and working groups important to the Spa industry, including those with the Ministry of Public Health, Department of Export Promotion (DEP), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Education, Thai Chamber of Commerce, Office of Small & Medium Enterprise Promotion (OSMEP), Institute of Small & Medium Enterprise Development (ISMED) and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, whose support for the long term development of the industry is acknowledged and applauded.
