The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has appointed Mr. Veerathai Santiprabhob, PhD, as Chief Strategy Officer, Corporate Strategy and Development, SET. He has also been appointed as Executive Director, Capital Market Research Institute, Capital Market Development Fund, effective January 26, 2009.
Dr. Veerathai will be in charge of SET’s Corporate Strategy and Development Division. He will oversee business policy for SET group and develop strategic plans, including those supporting the Capital Market Development Committee. His division’s work will enhance the Thai bourse’s role in 2009 and support SET in becoming a key player in Thailand’s Capital Development Plan.
He will also head the Capital Market Research Institute, Capital Market Development Fund, which will do analysis supporting long-term capital market development.
Dr. Veerathai has 15 years of work experience as a policy economist in public, private, and international institutions. His last position was as Executive Vice President, Strategic Planning Division, Siam Commercial Bank, where he spent eight years. Prior to that, he served as co-director of the Policy Research Institute, Fiscal Policy Office, Ministry of Finance (This institute was created to provide top executives of the Ministry of Finance with recommendations on macroeconomic policy and financial sector restructuring measures after the 1997 economic crisis.) In addition, he was with International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., as an economist.
Dr. Veerathai received his B.A. (first class honors) in economics from Thammasat University and A.M. and Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University. His graduate study was sponsored by H.M.the King's Anandhamahidol Foundation.
