ข่าวท่องเที่ยว Wednesday January 28, 2009 17:31 —PRESS RELEASE LOCAL

Bangkok--28 Jan--Spark Communications Despite a global economic downturn, Emirates SkyCargo is demonstrating its bullish long-term business strategy at The International Air Cargo Association’s (Tiaca) Air Cargo Forum (ACF 2008) in Kuala Lumpur. Key managers from the award winning carrier’s 100+ directly served and offline stations are in the city to meet existing and potential customers and partners alike to promote Emirates SkyCargo’s suitability as an international airline partner. Ram Menen, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President Cargo, explained, “Emirates SkyCargo is continuing to invest in our business for the benefit of our customers, and for the industry as a whole. From today, our Dubai hub is officially a “live” e-Freight station. This means the freight on Emirates SkyCargo flights between Dubai and London, Singapore and Hong Kong (including our Hong Kong flights which go via Bangkok, and Singapore flights via Colombo) will move without any accompanying paperwork. “As Emirates SkyCargo was one of the six airlines, along with IATA and other key industry stakeholders and regulators, that were involved with e-Freight from its concoction and was one of the early drivers of this concept, this is a particularly proud day for us. “We are also proud to participate in ACF 2008, which is regarded as one of the best opportunities for our industry to meet and determine new best practices for the international air cargo sector.” Prakash Nair, Emirates Manager Network Cargo Sales Development, continued, “Emirates SkyCargo recognises the value of industry global gatherings. For us, Malaysia is an ideal host for ACF 2008 as the country is a key market for Emirates. In the 2007-08 financial year, Emirates SkyCargo carried more than 11 million kilograms on our Malaysian flights, reflecting a seven per cent volume increase over the previous year. “Meanwhile Asia is an ideal place for us to showcase our capabilities as it home to some of the world’s busiest trade lanes and represents a significant portion of our business.” Emirates SkyCargo is currently ranked as the eighth biggest carrier in terms of international scheduled freight tonnes carried. Last year, the cargo arm of Emirates Airline carried a record 1.3 million tonnes across its network which spans 101 destinations in 61 countries on six continents. The East Asia and Australasia region accounts for the lion’s share — some 31 per cent — of the carrier’s business in terms of volume and 43 per cent of its revenue. Emirates SkyCargo is on track to achieve double digit growth once again in the 2008-09 fiscal year (ending 31st March 2009). The airline’s success is based on its excellent customer service and solid business fundamentals — the carrier maintains low costs through operating efficiencies, pursues new revenue opportunities through its strategic network and fleet expansion, and continually invests in product development. Emirates SkyCargo currently services Kuala Lumpur nine times a week through non-stop flights from Dubai. By the end of the year, this figure will increase to 12 weekly.
