Fitch Ratings will host a teleconference on Monday 9 February 2009 at 15:00 GMT to discuss the impact of the global economic slowdown on the banking sectors in Japan, Australia and emerging Asian countries.
The effects of the slowdown in China have had a severe impact on the Japanese and Australian economies. Japanese banks now face a much harsher outlook with capital under pressure from the falling stock market. Australian banks also face credit quality challenges, and with Australia's long boom financed by overseas borrowings, the call will discuss how these banks will cope with conditions in global capital markets.
David Marshall, Managing Director and Head of Financial Institutions Asia-Pacific will host the teleconference. He will be joined by John Miles, Senior Director and other Fitch analysts covering Asia-Pacific banks who will be present to answer questions.
The call is expected to run approximately 40 minutes, followed by a short Q&A session for interested participants.
