Renowned Thai saxophonist Koh Mr. Saxman and the famous ranad-ek player Khun Lek will take part in an extraordinary music concert, "Rhythms Meeting", that features 10 outstanding musicians around the world from various musical traditions. Creating a sound that is jazzy, contemporary and at the same time captures the notes of musical instruments from different cultures, the concert will take place at Patravadi Theatre's Theatre-in-the-Garden on 15 February 2009.
Conceived by Swiss pianist and composer Francois Lindeman, "Rhythms Meeting" is a 4-month journey to meet, travel and work with outstanding musicians around the world to engage audience with a multitude of musical experiences. Francois Lindeman has a flair in the mixing of international sounds and the theatrical aspects of music concerts. He was the brainchild and performer of "Swiss Jazz meets Music from Thailand," in 1997 and the full-house "Piano Seven" concert in 2005 Bangkok Music and Dance Festival.
Lindeman kicked off the "Rhythms Meeting" musical tour with an African American percussionist, a pipa player, an Armenian bass player and a Guadeloupian saxophonist from January in Europe. The team then goes on to Morocco, Indonesia, Thailand, India, and finally makes its return to Europe. In each country they visit, a musician of traditional music and a musician leaning towards Western music will join the team, gathering momentum like a music caravan.
Musicians of "Rhythms Meeting" will take residence in Patravadi Theatre, with support from Alliance Francaise, and the concert will be taken place at the open-air Theatre-in-the-Garden, the relaxed charm of which Francois Lindeman thinks will best suit the open and unique nature of this special concert.
