To be purified and ready for gaining merit, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited led by Senior Executive Vice President and Acting President ACM Narongsak Sangapong and its Executive Vice President for Commercial Pandit Chanapai held a grand merit making ceremony by offering food to 49 monks at THAI’s head office. The grand merit was initiated to bring the blessings for the kick-off for ‘Miles for Merit 2009’ campaign. The ceremony was joined by hundreds of THAI staff and Royal Orchid Plus members and as noticeable, that morning every joiners felt the blessings after giving monks food. The Miles for Merit 2009 is a great merit-making campaign by THAI through donating miles to support ‘the World Tipi?aka Presentation’ — first ever edition in Roman script according to the gracious initiation of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana. It will help carry out the royal wishes of Wisdom and Peace by presenting a 40-volume ‘World Tipi?aka Edition in Roman Script’ to leading international institutions worldwide. Khunying Sangduen na Nakorn, President of ‘Princess Galyani's Tipi?aka Endowment Project’ said that ‘Tipi?aka contains the words of the Buddha after his enlightenment which has been laid down the principles for Buddhist studying around 3,000 years. Tipi?aka is dubbed the ‘Heart of Buddhism’ to preserve a heritage of humanity for world wisdom and peace. Priority for Tipitaka presentation is given to institutions which received the Siam-script Tipi?aka from King Chulalongkorn Chulachomklao of Siam, the Princess’s grandfather over a century ago. In 2005, as the Honorary President of the World Tipi?aka Project, HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana made a special pilgrimage to Sri Lanka to present a 40-volume ‘World Tipi?aka Edition in Roman Script’. Since then the royal gift of Tipi?aka has been presented to no less than 30 institutions in 12 countries including Sweden, Thailand, India, Japan, and Netherlands. This year, through the meritorious support by Thai Airways, the Roman-script edition will support the Tipi?aka presentation to institutions in the United States for the first time.’ Mr.Pandit Chanapai, THAI’s Executive Vice President for Commercial Department mentioned ‘Miles for Merit campaign was commenced since 2007. With a great success, the award tickets redemption from donated miles enabled 80 monks to travel to Buddhist holy sites in India and Nepal to earn merit in honour of His Majesty the King’s 80th birthday anniversary. This year campaign will carry out the royal gift of Tipi?aka in Roman script from Thailand to the world.
