Bangkok--10 Feb--CM Mar-Comm Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has kicked off “Green Meetings” campaign to advance Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry with the environment-conscious practice, which is strongly believed to help driving more international events and activities to Thailand. The new move will become a new policy and practice for Thai MICE operators to follow in response to the world’s trend. Mr. Natwut Amornvivat, President of Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) revealed “Global Warming is one of the world’s most significant issues as it directly affects the lives of people. Environment-consciousness is in the interest of every industry and business sector. Many of them have put it into their practice and operation. The Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry is a sector that has utilized natural resources in its operation. Hence, MICE practitioners have demanded the environment-consciousness as a major factor in deciding a host country. “TCEB will push “Green Meetings” project as a driver to support MICE operators so that they consider the significance of environment-friendly practice as one of the major factors in their operation and business practice. The “Green Meetings” project is launched in partnership with Thailand Environment Institute (TEI), Green Leaf Foundation, Trade Exhibition Association (Thai) or TEA, Thailand Incentive & Convention Association (TICA), and MICE operators.” Earlier, TCEB, in collaboration with operators such as convention centers, hotels, and event organizers, conduct “Green Survey” to collect data on environment-friendly practice by MICE operators. With the data and assessment, TCEB and Thai Environment Institute came up with a practice guideline manual, called Thailand’s Green Meetings Guideline for the MICE operators to put into practice. The guideline covers several topics such as a basic practice for the operators to protect environment and save costs. The operators are encouraged to disseminate data online such as promoting file-downloading from the Internet, support the travel to an event venue by public transportation, use more recycling materials such as papers and avoid non-recycling materials such as foam and plastic. In addition, the donation of meeting materials such as filing cases to charity organizations or surrounding communities is also mentioned in the guideline. “In addition to the Green Meeting practice, TCEB also prepares full support for MICE operators who wish to join the project in terms of, for example, budget, marketing and public communication campaign, and certificate awards. Also, TCEB is poised to serve as an agent for business matching service for organizations who are looking for environment-friendly operators to work with, so that the project is practical. The Green Meeting project will create positive images for the operators, help reduce expenses, and take MICE operators and Thailand’s MICE industry to the next level in competition with other countries. “Apart from protecting the environment, the Green Meetings project is considered a major selling point for MICE business in the future because international MICE industry is concerned with environment when it comes to selecting a host country for their events. A research by TCEB finds that Thailand has superior advantages than its rivals in terms of value for money and impressive Thai ways of servicing. It’s important that we create differences and focus on environment-friendly practice or Green Meetings in the competition. I’d like to invite all MICE operators to join our Green Meetings project. Help us create a new standard to hold quality environment-friendly events for Thailand,” he said.
