Luxury condominium developer, Raimon Land, participated in the inaugural Walk for Women on February 7 and 8 to raise funding and awareness for cervical cancer, promote its prevention and a healthy lifestyle.
Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra presided over the highly successful 24-hour team and individual walk/run event on a 1.2-kilometre course in Bangkok’s Lumpini Park, in which hundreds of Thais and expatriates took part.
Raimon Land Sales and Marketing Director, Henri Young, said “Our corporate social responsibility programme is committed to supporting community projects, and we felt the Walk for Women particularly worthy as it contributes to raising awareness for the most common cancer found among Thai women.
“It was a fantastic effort by all involved as it was quite a long event, but all participants’ commitment illustrated the importance of devoting more resources to this issue.”
According to GLOBALCAN2000, 6,100 new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed in Thai women each year while accounting for 3,100 deaths. Most cases in Thailand are diagnosed at a very advanced stage, which leads to low chances of survival.
After the Walk for Women, prizes were given to the top three individuals and teams who covered the longest distances, and a special award was presented to the team with the most registered walkers.
