Bangkok--16 Feb--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) will join Daiwa Investment Conference 2009, organized by Daiwa Securities SMBC during February 18-20 in Tokyo, to build more confidence among Japanese and worldwide institutional investors, and get ideas for developing satisfying products and services. “Japan was the first place where SET went on a roadshow this year. Earlier this month, we went there with the Thai Board of Investment to provide information to investors, and received positive responses. This trip with Daiwa Securities is the second visit to Japan this month. Currently, Japanese investors are the sixth highest of investors from 79 countries in terms of holding Thai securities, accounting for 2.6%,” disclosed SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai. “More Japanese investors have strong confidence to invest in through the Thai bourse. As most of their investment is for the long-term, the current global financial crisis offers unusually good opportunities to buy into Thai firms with good operating performance and strong potential growth. Institutional investors will hold activities to provide detailed information to Japanese retail investors and stimulate their interest. We strongly believe that the proportion of Japanese and other foreign investors will increase shortly,” she added. “During this coming visit, SET will meet large Japanese institutional investors who manages assets worth over THB4 trillion (USD 116.60 billion). This is a good chance to exchange views on investing in Thai securities, and we can develop our products and services to be more attractive to buyers, resulting in an investor base expansion,” noted Ms. Patareeya. “We are pleased that SET gave importance to Japanese investors by joining Daiwa Investment Conference 2009. In particular, the Exchange Summit will be a key part of this conference, and will be held on February 20. At this Summit, management from the most prominent Asian-Pacific stock exchanges will give presentations to major investors in Japan and worldwide. Also, listed firms in Japan and other Asia pacific countries, including PTT PLC will give a presentation,” said Daiwa Securities SMVC Co., Ltd. Chief Representative Sung Ho Kang. Daiwa Securities SMBC organizes the Daiwa Investment Conference every February, drawing over 90 corporations from the Asia-Pacific and 5,400 investors last year.
