Siemens Ltd. Thailand Appoints First Asian CEO

Bangkok--16 Feb--Siemens Siemens Ltd. Thailand, a world leading electrical and engineering company with the operations in the industry, energy and healthcare sectors, announced the appointment of Mr. Anthony Chay as President and Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1 February 2009, succeeding Mr. Lothar Herrmann, who moved to be country CEO for Siemens Singapore. The appointment made Mr. Chay the first Asian to take over leadership at Siemens Ltd. Thailand. Mr. Anthony Chay was born in Singapore, studied in Germany and France. Early in his career, he worked for Singapore’s Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of the Environment. He joined Siemens Singapore in 1992, and has held various managerial positions. From 1992 till 2000, he led the Procurement and Logistics Services with 7 offices in 5 Asian countries with a purchase volume in Asia of 1 billion DM. In 2000 Mr. Chay returned to Germany and served as a Corporate Auditor in the Siemens Corporate Audit in Munich, Germany which audits Siemens groups of companies in Europe and the USA under the empowerment of the Siemens Managing Board. In 2002, Mr. Chay returned to Singapore as the Managing Director of the Medical Instruments business, where he had responsibility for three production locations in Singapore, Indonesia and China with 1500 employees. From 2005 till end 2008, he was Vice President and General Manager of Siemens Healthcare in Taiwan where he successfully set up the Siemens Healthcare business with remarkable success; whereby he was well accepted by his strong and loyal customer base in Taiwan as a trustworthy and reliable business partner. And now — in recognition of his excellent work over the years Mr. Chay has been entrusted with an entire country. Actually three — since Siemens Thailand is responsible for Myanmar and Cambodia as well. Mr. Chay speaks German, English, Mandarin and three other Chinese dialects and Bahasa Indonesian. And he has already started to learn Thai.
