An Evening with Hideki Noda, the most renowned Japanese thespian

Bangkok--18 Feb--The Japan Foundation The Japan Foundation has initiated the organizing of a "Public Talk" by Hideki Noda, the most renowned Japanese playwright, play director as well as actor, in order to provide Thai people a precious opportunity to be exposed to the world of one of the most acclaimed Asian thespians. Noda's work has had a huge influence on Japanese Theatre. Moreover, his acclaimed play "Red Demon" (AKAONI) performed by local casts in England, Korea and Thailand, has also left a major mark here in Thailand. Now, several years after "Red Demon," theater goers will be able to explore what he has in mind for his next project with the help of an active moderator, Pawit Mahasarinand from Chulalongkong University, and another guest speaker, Pradit Prasartthong from Makhampom Studio. This will definitely be a must-see event, especially for someone who is interested in the latest trends of the theater scene. Hideki Noda has long been acclaimed as a leading thespian. In 1976, while he was a university student, Noda founded his theatre company called “Yume no Yuminsha” (Dreaming Bohemian), which soon became the emblem of the country's vibrant youth-theatre firmament and the leader of a nationwide cultural movement in the early 1980s. Just as everything seemed to be soaring, though, Noda broke up Yume no Yuminsha and went on to study theatre in London and in 1993, established the theatre company “Noda Map”, which has played to full houses ever since, whether they are small or large-scale venues. His recent theatre credits include The Bee, Red Demon, Oil, Kill, Pandora’s Bell, etc. Despite having been in the forefront of Japanese contemporary drama for so long, Noda has also blossomed in the quite distinct and different fields of opera and Japan's traditional Kabuki theatre. He has won most of the major drama awards in Japan. He will be Artistic Director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in 2009.
