THAI Provides Ground Handling for ASEAN Leaders at ASEAN Summit.

Bangkok--23 Feb--Thai Airways International Thai Airways International Public Company Limited will provide ground handling services for 10 Asian leaders at Hua-Hin Airport during the 14th Association of Southeast Asian Nations [ASEAN] Summit between 27 February and 1 March, 2008. THAI is the official handling airline for the Summit. THAI’s Managing Director, Ground Customer Services, Mr. Lek Klinvibul, said, “THAI is proud to provide services to such a distinguished gathering of Asia leaders. This year is consider a significant year for Thailand as the country will be hosting the 14th ASEAN Summit. THAI has provided similar ground services for other important events in Thailand, such as the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation [APEC] the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development [UNCTAD] and for the 60th Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s accession to the throne.” A full ground handling service at Hua Hin includes aircraft technical handling and support, ground handling services equipment; ramp services, baggage handling, delivery of baggage to/from hotels, meeting and assisting visitors on arrival and departure. Hua Hin is the oldest beach resort in Thailand 200 kilometres south of Bangkok. Construction of a railway in the early 20th century and of a Summer Palace for King Rama VII in 1926 transformed the quiet fishing village into a now famous beach and golf resort. Hua Hin Airport (HHQ) is an airport serving Hua Hin, a town in the Prachuap Khiri Khan Province of Thailand. Hua Hin is a small airport, about 15 minutes north of Hua Hin town centre. The airport has one runway, 2,100 meters, and terminal facilities recently upgraded to facilitate international traffic. Thailand assumed the ASEAN one and a half year chairmanship in July last year. Thailand has summarized its priorities during that term with the three Rs: realizing the commitments under the ASEAN charter; revitalizing a people centered community and reinforcing human development and security for all the people of the region. About ASEAN: ASEAN was established in 1967 in Bangkok by the five original members, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia joined over the next 32 years.
