Siam Discovery and Siam Center, together with Siam Commercial Bank and Wish @ Samyan, go green with “100 Designs to Save the World” - the superb design exhibition aiming to promote the environmental protection according to the idea of 3Rs — Reuse, Recycle and Reduce. The hall spaces was transformed into elegant galleries, featuring 100 art pieces combined with environmental saving innovation by Thailand’s leading designers and students, so that the interested public can witness wide varieties of creative ideas from March 3 to 11, 2009, at Siam Discovery and Siam Center.
In recognition of the environment’s tremendous significance, Siam Discovery and Siam Center would like to encourage the youth, students and public to project their green ideas by recycling the wasted materials into the beautiful and valuable artwork as a method to bring out the maximum use of the limited natural resources. The shopping centers have started “Eco Projects” since July 2008 and it was divided into Origami World eco-friendly Japanese-style paper folding, Scrap Lab Exhibition recycling the wastes into the new invention, U Fashion Contest — the design competition in undergraduate level under the concept of “global warming alleviation”, Jeans for Green — the auction of the used jeans redesigned by celebrities and the proceeds went to “Save the Water and Forest for Her Majesty the Queen” project (โครงการรักน้ำรักษ์ป่าร่วมใจถวายพระแม่ของแผ่นดิน) and Let’s Grow The Christmas Trees Together that artistically created Christmas tree with wasted materials, such as CDs, clothes and soda cans, to arouse the environmental conscience about garbage reduction.
As a consequence, “100 Designs to Save the World” Exhibition featured not only the highlight pieces from “Eco Projects”, but also new artwork under the world-saving concept by Thailand’s leading designers, such as M.L. Pawinee Santisiri (Sukhsavasti) and her “Waffle Design” adapted from local wisdom, Duangrit Bunnag and The Carpenter’s Bench - the vintage bench with everlasting beauty, Assist. Prof. Dr. Singh Intrachooto, Head of Building Technology Division, Faculty of Architecture, Kasetsart University, and his “Sage’s Chair” made of his students’ wasted lecture paper with the top surface made of chips of wood, and Rath Pliansuk, the famous designer, with his “Oasis Lalune” lamp whose steel structure is covered by Spanish moss, which presents a perfect combination between technology and environment. Furthermore, witness one-of-a-kind design by celebrities, such as Vasu — Issariya Virajsilp, who created the graphic design on “Ford” using E-20.
Furthermore, there are innovative world-saving artwork by leading fashion, home d?cor and furniture brands, such as Eco Pillow by Parker & Morgan made of biological degradable bamboo pulp, Eucalyptus pulp and the chaff of Soba seed, Stella McCartney for LeSportsac made of 100% strong yet soft and light recycled textile. Do not miss a design exhibition by Association of Siam Architect (ASA), Bangkok Design Festival 2008 and design magazines, such as Wallpaper, Casaviva and Living etc.
On March 3, 2009 at 18.00 p.m., the award announcement for design and production contest under the theme of “100 Designs to Save the World” will take place at Grand Hall, 1st Floor of Siam Discovery. The award will be divided into five categories: furniture, home d?cor, lighting, toy and fashion accessory, to offer young designers, students and public alike, an opportunity to express their creativity in saving the environment. From numerous art pieces, only 30 passed pieces will be displayed in this exhibition.
