Lecture : “What happens to ceramics as an art form?”
Sunday April 5th, 2009. 14.00 — 17.00 pm.
At William Warren Library, Henry B Thompson Building.
With only a few weeks before the closure of Into An Empty Sky exhibition by Xawery Wolsky at The Jim Thompson Art Center, a thought-provoking lecture entitled “What happens to ceramics as an art form?” is being organized on April 5, 2009. The discussion will focus on the comments and ideas of Kata Sangkhae, Thonom Chapakedee and Prinda Setabundhu who work as artists, university professors and contemporary art critics.
“What happens to ceramics as an art form?” is intended to expand the concept of Into An Empty Sky, a ceramic based sculpture exhibition by Xawery Wolsky, a Polish artist who lives and works in New York and Mexico City. The exhibition aims to represent the idea of creating a new artistic language though ceramics which differ from other ceramic based works, which are generally more focused on the technical industrial process. The lecture will open a new forum for discussion about the creation of ceramic works of art in the context of industrial and artistic terms.
The lecture will be held on the closing date of the exhibition, April 5th from 2 to 5 pm., at William Warren Library, the Henry B. Thompson building, behind Jim Thompson House parking area.
