Bangkok--12 Mar--SET
Contests have proven to be effective in enlarging investor bases in Thailand. Thus, The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), in conjunction with the Association of Securities Companies and leading securities firms, will host The Star Marketing 2009 campaign for the third year. Last year’s contest brought in 31,000 new investors, or approximately 54,000 accounts. This was due to the hard work of over 4,700 securities marketers, accounting for 85% of all such employees in the country.
Today, (March 11) we will introduce this year’s program and announce the winners of The Star Marketing 2008, disclosed SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai.
“Marketers are important in contacting and providing information to investors. The Star Marketing contest aims at enhancing the knowledge and efficiency of marketers in advising investors, particularly when the current economic crisis has lowered the prices of numerous stocks to lower than book value. Marketers will point out that dividend yields are still at satisfactory levels and new products are available to help investors manage risks,” said Ms. Patareeya.
The Star Marketing contest will strengthen the marketers’ efficiency, helping build confidence among investors, enlarge Thai capital market’s investor base and increase the market’s liquidity, she noted.
“SET realizes the significance of a consistent development of marketers’ efficiency through training designed especially for marketers participating in this campaign. The training will include hands-on activities and increase understanding of current events. Participating marketers can apply their session hours towards credit for renewing their equity or derivatives licenses. Beside, there additional courses, such as “Strategies for sellers” and macroeconomics, noted Chief Marketing Officer —Market & Post Trade Services Sopawadee Lertmanaschai.
The Star Marketing 2009 will run April 1 until December 31, 2009. This year, the campaign will continue to focus on all four exchanges: SET, the Market for Alternative Investment, Thailand Futures Exchange PCL, and Bond Electronic Exchange. Marketers winning ‘Top Broker Star’ (one for each securities firm) and ‘Rising Star’ awards (thirty persons) will be eligible to visit securities businesses in Taiwan. There will be other special prizes and privileges worth over THB 3 million.
