Bangkok--13 Mar--SPOTMARK The economic downturn seems to be more severe than the 1997 financial crisis and recovery could take three or four years. The recession has now forced change and greater competition to the business community. However reducing spending on key marketing programs is the biggest mistake marketers can make in any economic downturn. This is not the time to be cutting marketing and advertising spend. Marketers should spend wisely to maintain or better yet increase marketing/advertising spending during a recession due to its ability to capture competitor market share and increase profitability. When working in a tight budget environment, it is important for marketer to consider proactive versus reactive marketing strategies that will best utilize the budget available. Many marketers consider internet marketing a key component to overcoming the challenges faced by the economic downturn. Nonetheless, while some are satisfied with the return on investment from online marketing, others see internet marketing posing a higher risk than traditional marketing as the outcomes are harder to predict and there is a higher chance to failure. So it is very important for marketers to conduct diligent research and put analysis tools into action. More importantly in order to be successful in internet marketing, marketers need more knowledge, training and awareness. “Internet Marketing Conference 2009 Bangkok will be a good education forum for marketer looking for marketers who are looking for solutions for their Internet marketing strategies to maximizing profits during a highly competitive marketplace and how to integrated internet marketing to their marketing mix,” according to Mr. Sirapat Kettarn, Managing Director, SPOTMARK Co., Ltd., a Bangkok based business conference organizer. He said that the Internet Marketing Conference is being organized to serve growing demands for internet marketing in Thailand. The growing important of online marketing is clearly evident not only in Thailand but globally. A recent survey by Kelsey Group and BIA Advisory Services showed that overall size of the US advertising marketing will be considerably smaller than it was at the end of 2008 at a predicted compound annual -1.4% overall growth rate, with the largest drop-off occurring in 2009. “The report said that spending on traditional local media is forecast to fall from USD141.3 billion in 2009 to barely over USD112 in 2013,” Mr. Sirapat said and continued that “the good news is that online ad market is growing and will continue to make up a larger percentage of the US advertising sector. Most of the spending will focus on internet yellow pages, local search, e-mail marketing and other online tactics.” The same pattern is happening in Thailand, leading online experts foresee an increase in online advertising spending as the downturn pushes marketers to more cost-effective alternative marketing channel. Thailand has high upside potential for internet marketing. The country has the second highest online time per user rate in Asia, secondly only to Singapore. At present Thailand have more than 13 millions internet users and 913,000 broadband subscribers. “During Internet Marketing Conference 2009 Bangkok, experts will discuss on how marketers can utilize each internet marketing tools to achieve their marketing objectives. The focus will be on social media marketing, search engine marketing, e-mail marketing and online advertising best practice,” said Mr. Sirapat adding that “in addition to presentations, the panel will discuss on hot internet marketing trend that marketers need to keep their eyes upon such as video marketing, blogging, mobile marketing, behavioral targeting, relationship marketing and multicultural marketing which are becoming hot issues among internet marketers around the world.” Internet Marketing Conference 2009 Bangkok will take place on 20-21 May 2009 at The Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok in Bangkok, Thailand.
