Thai Airways International Public Company received the Mercury Award, under the category Skill Development for Good Agricultural Practice (GAP), recognizing THAI’s implementation of good agricultural practice in educational and training processes, systems, and products, which successfully enhances customer services.
Mr. David Young, President of International Travel Catering Association visited Thailand to present the Mercury Award 2008 to Air Chief Marshal Narongsak Sangapong, THAI’s acting President, on behalf of THAI’s Catering Department. Mr. David Young revealed that the Thai Airways International entry for good agricultural practice (GAP) is a clear winner in the category of skills development. “The wonderful partnership formed by Thai Airways International, the farmers of Thailand and Kasetsart University is a tremendous example of cooperation that benefits all of the partners and the customers of Thai Airways International” he said.
Air Chief Marshal Narongsak Sangapong, THAI’s acting President said THAI’s Catering Department success comes from management and staff that work together as a team. With certificates from HACCP, GMP and ISO 9001 including this special award, I believe THAI’s Catering Department has developed to be the world-class catering service. THAI is proud and honored to have received the Mercury Award. The company’s catering staff have worked hard to maintain its highest hygiene standards and focusing on product quality.
The Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) program was developed in 2003 as a cooperative effort by THAI’s Catering Department and Kasetsart University for contract farming, which educates farmers in order to develop and produce good and safe raw materials for THAI’s Catering Department. Attaining the Mercury Award signified that THAI’s Catering Department can ensure customers that all meals served on board THAI flights are hygienically prepared .
Mercury Award, organized by the International Travel Catering Association (ITCA), is the most prestigious award for travel catering worldwide. Mercury Award features 6 categories including On Board Service, Food or Beverage, Equipment, Skills development, Systems and Process Development and Inspiration. ITCA is a global association representing caterers, suppliers of products and equipment of airline, sea and rail operators, with award selection conducted amongst 700 ITCA members worldwide. Mercury Award results were officially announced on 12 February 2009, during a special awards dinner held in Barcelona, Spain.
