Deutsche Bank today announced the appointment of Manfred Schmoelz as Chief Country Officer, Thailand, effective 1 April 2009. Mr Schmoelz replaces Rags Raghavan who is retiring from the bank.
In his new role, Mr Schmoelz will be responsible for all of Deutsche Bank’s local business lines and employees, and its relationship with Thailand’s banking regulators, central bank, and other institutions. He will report to Colin Grassie, Chief Executive Officer, Deutsche Bank Asia Pacific.
Announcing the appointment, Mr Grassie said, “Thailand is an important market for our regional and global franchise and we are continuing to develop and invest in our business there. Manfred brings almost 20 years of banking experience to the role and his expertise in providing financial solutions to corporate clients throughout Asia will be particularly valuable locally.”
Commenting on Mr Raghavan’s departure, Mr Grassie said, “Rags Raghavan skillfully guided the bank’s growth in Thailand for over 10 years, first in our markets business and then as country head. We wish him well in his retirement from the industry.”
Mr Schmoelz is currently Deutsche Bank’s Head of Corporate Banking Coverage, Asia Pacific, and is based in Singapore. He has worked in Corporate Banking for nearly 20 years, the last 13 of which have been in Asia. He has held various roles on both the product and relationship side of the business, and has worked in Singapore, Hong Kong and Germany.
