The spotlights have been blazing at the Aksra Theatre, King Power Complex this past weekend, lighting up Thai audiences especially Buddhists regards death as truth of nature of comprehensible occur at ‘Dear Death’ art performing. The show marked the debut of an innovative Thai performing arts which performed by Bangkok University Theatre Company and organized by its Executive Chairman Petch Osathanugrah. The evening also picked of the best show for theatre arts in the city. Joining the show were Bangkok’s elite and theatre lovers including Thanpuying Sumalee Chatikavanij, Dr.Somkid and Asst Prof.Anurachanee Jatusripitak, Prof.Surapone and Mrs.Theeraporn Virulrak, Dr.Vorapun Senanarong, Mrs.Patravadi Mechudhon, Mr.Supravat Pattamasuit, Mr.Santi and Mrs.Suchada Svetavimala, Ms.Nantavan Mekyai Suvanpiyasiri and many more. Before the premiere, guests proceeded to an exclusive cocktail party with creativity delicious specialties.
The performance was the reflection of an ordinary man who strives to reach the religious enlightenment, but great loss inevitably occurs on the pathway while he is not yet free from ‘grasping’ and ‘clinging’. Big draws at the ‘Dear Death’ included an exceptional talented longtime performer Neeranuj Patthamasuth stepping on to the stage with choreographer of grandmother. ‘Sabbe dhamma nalam abhinivesaya’ the prevalent moral of ‘Dear Death’, was a rich amalgamation of contemporary Thai dance and music, captured the spirit of Thai art spiced with an international flavor and blended with Thai music scores played with international instruments. In ‘Dear Death’, Buddhist philosophy was relayed through theatre language. The play was a story about grandmother and her grandson, epitomize a warm and loving Thai family. The grandmother, about to embark on an important ‘merit making journey’, lingers in apprehension. To calm the grandmother’s worries and fear, the grandson took her through an entertaining yet philosophical and enigmatic interval to prepare her for the long ‘journey’. The ‘Angel of Death’ revealed here was a saint full of compassion who reaches out to liberate all beings from sorrow and illness. Finally, Grandmother saw the TRUTH of life and was ready to embark on her ‘journey’ in peace.
Aparts from the development of an innovative Thai performing arts, the 90-minute production also focused on engaging audiences in the process of Death philosophy. Death is a god who ride on heavenly exquisite chariot to take our beloved one to eternal happiness and warmheartedly take good care of our beloved one through the journey.
