CIGNA was awarded the ISO 27001 Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification. The first insurance company in Thailand to secure the ISMS certification
Thailand becomes the first insurance firm in Thailand to secure the ISO 27001 certification of the Information Security Management System (ISMS). The Company urged that ISMS certification is crucial element for current telemarketing businesses as it certifies that the company has given the utmost importance to the maximum protection of customer data. The certification will make CIGNA Thailand's business partners feel more confident that their customer data will be protected on a maximum basis. Office of Insurance Commission said CIGNA's certification has lifted up the local insurance industry's standard to the higher international level.
Mr. Gary Wayne Denson, CEO & Country Manager of CIGNA International Thailand, said that the company has been committed to provide the maximum protection to data of its business partners and also the policy holders. The continued commitment is in line with its business model, which has focused on the CIGNA collaboration with the business partners to offer the accident & health insurance products through the tele-marketing and other direct response marketing channels. In order to further reinforce the business partners' confidence in CIGNA Thailand, last year the company applied for the Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) : ISO 27001 certification from the internationally recognized auditor- BSI Management (Thailand), which awarded the ISO 27001 certification to CIGNA Thailand early this year and officially presented the certificate to the company at the ceremony event earlier this month. The award makes CIGNA Thailand become the first insurance company in the Kingd om to secure the ISMS certification.
“CIGNA Thailand had applied for the ISO 27001 for the scope of the information security management system for protection of customer data in telemarketing processes and the related information systems operation and infrastructure support activities. We comply with the data security standard from the retrieving of the business partners' customer data, the recording of the customer data, including the protection of the customer data - less than 10 personnel of CIGNA Thailand are authorized to access the customer data. The non-authorized persons have been strictly prohibited from accessing, amending, or using the customer data. Moreover, the company's tele-sales are required to carry out their work on a paperless basis in order to prevent them from recording any information on paper or any electronic devices. All of these are to ensure that the CIGNA Thailand's business partners and policy holders will gain the highest benefit from the CIGNA Thailand's standard busines practice. They can be ensured that their data will be maximally protected and will not be amended, exploited, or mis-used.” Quoted Mr. Denson.
Mrs. Chantra Puranarirksha, Secretary General of the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC), said that as the industry regulator, OIC is very proud of the success of CIGNA Thailand in securing the ISMS certification. CIGNA Thailand has continued to further improve its internal operating system, which enables the company to secure the ISMS certification and also makes it become the first insurance company in Thailand to secure the ISMS certification. The certification also further lifts up the quality level of the local insurance industry to the higher international standard level.
Mr. Denson added that CIGNA International has given the utmost importance to the data security and it is the parent company policy that CIGNA International around the world have to be certified with the ISMS standard and their business operations have to be audited by the accredited auditors. CIGNA Thailand is the third CIGNA International in the world that has secured the ISMS certification. He said that securing the certification was one of the company's top priorities, given that it is one key strategy to help CIGNA Thailand establish its solid groundwork in Thailand and to create the confidence of all the partners in CIGNA.
He said that this year CIGNA Thailand targets to forge the business partnership deals with at least three major firms, which are in the industries of leading financial institutes, insurance firms, and retail businesses. The company targets that its ANP this year will grow 70 % from last year. CIGNA Thailand is confident that the certification will bring to the company the higher confidence of the existing partners and enables the company to achieve the goal of expanding its business partner number soon.
