Plan to spotlight the power of Asian youth media to fight violence in schools
Plan will announce the launch of its first-ever international Young Hearts Youth Arts and Media festival on April 23, 2009 at Siam Center in Bangkok.
By showcasing top-quality youth art and media productions, the Young Hearts Youth Arts and Media Festival will prove that young people have valuable things to say and exciting and engaging ways of saying it. The festival will encourage the mainstream broadcast, publication and viewing of youth media while also fighting against violence in schools.
Violence in schools is a shocking reality for many children all across Asia. All too often students must confront bullying, corporal punishment, sexual violence and other forms of harassment in their schools. With the help of Plan through the Learn Without Fear campaign, children and youth have raised their voices and used their creative talents to combat this epidemic of violence.
The international festival is the culmination of a series of country-level national youth media campaigns. The festival will showcase some of the best youth media and art from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The festival itself will be held May 15 and 16, 2009 at Siam Discovery and Discovery Plaza, 989 Rama 1 Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok.
The press conference on April 23 is to garner support for the festival and to highlight our shared responsibility in ending violence in schools.
