Bangkok--7 May--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) reported that there are positive investment signs showing now, revealing good opportunities for investors. At the same time, Thailand Futures Exchange PCL (TFEX) will introduce eleven new stock futures choices to investors to use as financial tools in increasing returns and managing risks. Information on a wide range of investment alternatives, including the new ones, will be provided in SET in the City Zone in Money Expo 2009, during May 7-10 at Meeting Room 1-4, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, 10.00 — 20.00 hrs.
“SET Index has gradually increased, particularly from April 1 through the present (May 4), as rising from 430.09 to 506.25 points (up 17.71%). The average trading turnover of THB15.7 billion (USD 446.73 million) reflects investors’ confidence in the economic recovery and positive overseas indications. However, investors must be prudent in decision-making and understand how to diversify to manage their portfolio effectively,” revealed Ms. Sopawadee Lertmanaschai, SET Chief Marketing Officer-Market & Post Trade Services.
“In addition to equities, derivatives are another alternative investment that could help create opportunity to gain profits. Not only that, derivatives can be used to manage risk when stock prices are vulnerable, and with low cost. Currently, Thailand Futures Exchange PCL (TFEX) already has stock futures with ADVANC, PTT, or PTTEP as the underlying asset. TFEX will soon introduce more such single-stock futures. Investors can learn about these new products and receive advice before anyone else at SET in the City Zone at Money Expo 2009,” she added.
SET realizes the importance of having diversified products for investment to create returns and manage risks. Stock futures is an attractive product, since it can create opportunities to acquire returns both in bull and bear markets. For example, when stock prices are low, investors can invest in stock futures, thus managing risk without having to sell from their portfolios. Returns from stock futures would help compensate for losses from stocks. On the other hand, when equity prices rise, investors can use stock futures to boost their portfolio value at low cost. Or, if investors do not hold equities, but have expectations about stock prices, they can invest in stock futures with the underlying asset that they are interested in; this strategy will have lower costs than buying stocks directly, and could gain higher profits.
SET in the City Zone provides service on derivatives investment, e. g., opening accounts at TFEX brokerage firms, asking about gold futures, stock futures, or trading options. On May 8, at 14:00-15:30 hours, there will be a special seminar on “Strengthening your portfolio with stock futures”. All those opening a stock futures account during May 7-10 will get a bull doll, at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
