Bangkok--13 May--Raimon Land
Hundreds of yachts from throughout Asia and around the world competed in the Raimon Land-sponsored Top of the Gulf International Regatta 2009, one of the region’s most prestigious sailing events held from April 30 — May 4 at the Ocean Marina Yacht Club in Pattaya.
Raimon Land’s support of the regatta, which featured 11 hotly contested classes including the HM The King’s Platu Coronation Cup and the Optimist Thailand Nationals for single hull dinghies, is part of the luxury property developer’s strategy to promote Thailand’s marine leisure activities as a key attraction for its resort destinations.
Raimon Land Director of Marketing, Henri Young, said the regatta’s excellent turnout, in spite of the ongoing global economic slowdown, highlights Pattaya’s international appeal for hosting prominent sailing events and providing upscale outdoor lifestyle activities.
“This year's Top of the Gulf Regatta was one of the most keenly contested yet, and Raimon Land was proud once again to be a part of the event, which very much assists the Pattaya economy and its image as one of Thailand's favourite sailing destinations,” said Mr Young.
Hometown favourite Damrongsak Pongwichlen took IRC 2 honours at the helm of Royal Thai Navy (pictured) ahead of David Bell and Leif Ho, while Matt Allen notched up the overall win in IRC 1 onboard Ichi Ban ahead of Pascal Leray and Gary Baguley.
Other class winners included Renfred Tay in IRC Cruising Class, Radab Kanjanavanit in Ocean Multihulls, and Damrongsak Vongtim and Kitsada Vongtim in Hobie 16.
