Bangkok--15 May--NIST Atrium
A lovely cocktail party, in honour of the IB Art Exhibition Opening, was held on April 23, 2009, in the NIST Atrium. There were more people than expected, as the Atrium filled up with a public audience, namely guests from other schools, the Year 13 students and their family members, School Board Members and friends, staff members, local artists and journalists. Following refreshments in the Atrium, NIST Y12 students led guests on a tour of the Exhibit. The graduating class of 2009 NIST IB Art students were very pleased to discuss and present all of their art works to the visitors.
The Artwork displayed was created using both traditional art media of painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture as well as mixed media and digital imagery. This year’s theme, “Individual journey,” embraced the students’ artistic journey; and their art gives an insight into their personal thoughts and different cultures. Their work has been inspired by different artists and experiences.
NIST Headmaster, Mr Simon Leslie, expressed his hearty congratulations to the Art students "The ability of the 35 students involved in the exhibition was evident for all to see and all took great pride in explaining their story and how they achieved the outcomes we were able to witness. The works represent all aspects of the IB Learner Profile and has enabled students to express themselves in very clear, open, creative and honest ways."
NIST Head of Art, Ms Caroline Little, said “As usual a high number of students took Visual Art, all pursuing their own individual inquiry. Each student takes a conceptual journey where they explore different paths by experimentation with a range of processes and techniques. Indeed this year the artistry comprised a wide range of works in two and three dimensions, including photography." She continued "The exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to enable the school community to see and celebrate the visual arts. It certainly inspires students across both the elementary and secondary schools."
