Ratchaburi Holding Invests in the Expansion of Pratu Thao Project to Minimize Oil Usage for Electricity Generation by 1.5 Million Liters per Year

Bangkok--19 May--Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding PCL. (RATCH) invests 35 million Baht in the expansion of Pratu Thao Power Plant in Sukhothai. This maximizes utilization of the associated gas instead of using 1.5 million liters per year of oil for power generation. The project will start its commercial operation date in early 2010. Mr. Noppol Milinthanggoon, President of Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding PCL. revealed the resolution of the board of directors dated May 18, 2009, RATCH is prompt to invest in capacity expansion of Pratu Thao Power Plant in Sukhothai, which is fired by associated gas, a by-product of oil refining from Pratu Thao-A rig operated by PTTEP PCL. This project responds to the government’s policy concerning on energy saving and enhancement of economic value for a waste energy in refining process. The extension of Pratu Thao power plant will be fired by associated gas generated from the oil refining rig, which was burnt out at a volume of 200,000 cubic feet per day. This could compensate the consumption of oil by 1.5 million liters per year which calculated as a reduction of 20 million Baht per year. With the project value of 35 million Baht, the expansion of Pratu Thao project will have additional capacity of 0.875 MW. The investment will be used from cash flow from Ratchaburi Energy Company Limited, the Company’s subsidiary. Previously, a 1.75-MW Pratu Thao power plant started the commercial operation date since June 27, 2007 by supplying electricity to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). The project can reduce the use of oil amounted to 22.50 million Baht per megawatt. In addition, it is recognized as an environmental friendly plant from the nearby community. The Expansion of Pratu Thao project will be located close to the existing power plant at Kong Krilat District, Sukhothai province. It is expected to start the commercial operation date in early 2010.
