Thai bourse holds contest among youth to expand prudent investor base in the future

Bangkok--22 May--SET The Thai bourse will partner with several other organizations to sponsor a contest promoting knowledge of economics and personal finance among youth. This contest will help expand the investor base that the Thai capital market needs for its sustainable growth. The “Diamond Crown in Economics Nern-Thong-Khong-Mee-Ka and Sufficiency Economy Philosophy” contest will be on August 29-30, 2009. Any primary or secondary school in Thailand may send contestants. Capital Market Institute, part of The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), will work together with the Office of the Basic Education Commission, Romchatra Foundation, and Thai Life Assurance Association, revealed Mr. Punsak Vejanurug, SET Executive Director, Capital Market Institute. This competition is a part of the Diamond Crown Project, managed by Romchatra Foundation and the Office of Basic Education Commission. This project currently has eight “diamonds”, or subjects: 1) Mathematics 2) Science 3) Thai 4) Buddhism 5) Chinese 6) English 7) Japanese and 8) History. Economics will be the ninth “diamond”, targeted at students in primary and secondary levels (P.1-M.6). “SET will be the main coordinator of the Diamond Crown’s Economics component to establish a strong financial health among youth, which will help them become prudent adults and investors. The program was developed from Nern-Thong-Khong-Mee-Ka competition which SET has held every year since 2005,” said Mr. Punsak. The competition “Diamond Crown in Economics Nern-Thong-Khong-Mee-Ka and Sufficiency Economy Philosophy” is supported by the Capital Market Development Fund Foundation and Thai Life Assurance Association that continually supported Nern-Thong-Khong-Mee-Ka The Champion. Students not only get a chance to compete at a national level, but the fifty students with the highest scores at the elementary level will receive additional training courses as prizes. Additionally, the project is also supported by CPF Trading Co., Ltd.. Any school interested in joining the contest can sponsor up to three students per level. The contest will be held at Satriwithaya School 2, Bangkok, and the application period will run from June 1 — July 31, 2009.
