Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) recently joined forces with the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University to present the prestigious “Bai Po Business Awards by Sasin” to 5 local SMEs, namely, Twin Lotus Co., Ltd., Nandee Inter-Trade Co., Ltd., Perm Poon Patana Industry Co.,Ltd., Yothaka International Co., Ltd., and VPP Progressive Co., Ltd. These awards reflect the strong potential and high quality of Thai SMEs. The award presentation ceremony was held on May 26 at the Siam Commercial Bank Talad Noi Branch, and presided over by Mr. Anand Panyarachun, Siam Commercial Bank Chairman of the Board of Directors. Ongorn Abhakorn Na Ayudhya, SCB Corporate Communications Division Executive Vice President, noted that the Bai Po Business Awards by Sasin are a collaborative effort between Siam Commercial Bank and the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University. Established in 2007 to recognize successful Thai companies demonstrating distinction amongst peers, the award aims to inspire local business operators to be more active in continuously enhancing their capabilities, and to assist them in becoming role models for other local small and medium enterprises in setting good standards and boosting sustainable economic growth. This is the third time in a row that these award ceremonies have been organized. To date 15 outstanding companies have received the awards, bringing great pride to the SME community.
Kittiratt Na Ranong, Sasin Academic Affairs Deputy Director, explained that award winners must pass primary evaluation criteria and demonstrate distinctive qualifications critical to competitiveness, including customer focus, innovation, quality, adaptability to change, value creation, branding, efficiency, leadership & team building, social responsibility, and entrepreneurship. These criteria are considered critical to the development of SME business in order to withstand an unfavorable business environment and current economic woes. In selecting award winners, the Evaluation Committee Panel will judge qualified award recipients from candidates, with no limit to the number of candidates receiving the award each year. As a token of recognition for their continuous business development, selected companies will receive certificates and plaques as a testament to their outstanding performance to assist them in gaining the trust and confidence of their customers and trading partners.
Dr. Ajva Taolananda, Honorary Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Evaluation Committee Panel, disclosed that this is the third year in a row that the Bank and Sasin have organized the award presentation ceremony. This year the committee selected five companies to receive the awards, out of more than 140 applicants or nominated candidates, namely:
Yothaka International Co., Ltd.: The Company pioneered the use of water hyacinth for producing a wide range of designer furnishing collections and has distinguished itself through product innovation, value creation, and social responsibility.
Nandee Inter-Trade Co., Ltd.: An importer and distributor of more than 1,000 types of industrial equipment, ranging from manufacturing to packaging processes. The Company is distinguished for its customer focus and efficiency.
VPP Progressive Co., Ltd.: Recognized as an outstanding producer of specialty coffee, VPP supports coffee farmers from the initial process of planting, purchasing, processing, through to distributing. The Company also produces concentrated syrup to substitute for imported products, and operates the "Caffe D'Oro" family of coffee houses.The Company has distinguished itself through its social responsibility, adaptability to change, and branding.
Perm Poon Patana Industry Co.,Ltd.: As an OEM manufacturer and distributor of cotton bud, ball, and pad products for many local and foreign brands, including its own "Bonus" brand, the Company was awarded for its distinction in terms of customer focus, quality, and efficiency.
Twin Lotus Co., Ltd.: A manufacturer, distributor, and exporter of "Twin Lotus" brand herbal toothpaste and other body cleanser products. As evidence of its distinction for quality, branding, adaptability to change, and social responsibility, its "Twin Lotus" toothpaste currently dominates the herbal toothpaste market.
Companies receiving the “Bai Po Business Awards by Sasin” have clearly demonstrated a strong determination in driving business growth under capable team management, innovation, value creation, and customer focus —important factors in driving the Thai economy forward.
