AIS OPENS THAILAND’S FIRST “WIND TURBINE BASE STATION”
SUPPORTING THE CAMPAIGN GLOBAL WARMING RECUCTION WTH CLEAN ENERGY FROM WIND
AIS proceeds to source the solutions to extend the Green Network concept, opening Thailand’s first “Wind Turbine Base Station” at Ban Amphoe beach, Pattaya to participate in the campaign global warming reduction with clean energy from nature.
Mr. Wichian Mektrakarn, President of Advanced Info Service Plc. or AIS, disclosed “This year AIS prepares 13,000-15,000 million Baht budget for overall network operations. In addition to coverage expansion, capacity enhancement, quality improvement and innovation development for customers to use services without any limitations in all areas, we actively participate in global warming reduction scheme, especially the study of clean energy and substitute energy utilization in order to reduce carbon monoxide emission and excessive use of electrical energy which, as a whole, lead to the global warming reduction campaign while maintaining best service quality.”
“The scopes of work in the Green Network project implemented by AIS in network development include;
1. Wind energy: Install wind turbine to generate electricity supplying the functionalities of base stations. Starting the experiment two years, the wind energy base station is now operating in the Na Chomtien municipality, Sattaheep, Chonburi. Wind speed information is being collected for further development of 10 additional operation sites.
2. Solar Energy: Use solar cell to transform solar energy to electricity to supply communication device in the Base Stations. So far, we have implemented this energy concept in 16 locations.
3. Energy Saving Telephone Exchange: Install Insulated Wall to keep appropriate temperature within the Telephone Exchange sites. The air conditioning unit size is reduced together with the use of air conditioning liquid free from environmental effects. Today 8 Telephone Exchange sites are operating with such energy saving approach.
4. Energy Saving Base Station: Replace air conditioning with fans to ventilate heat in order to reduce electricity use. Today over 1,600 sites are operating with fan ventilator.
“The Wind Turbine Generator Base Station is Thailand’s first site to apply wind energy to generate power for the use of AIS Base Stations. The turbine unit can generate 5 kW electricity at 6 mps wind speed with average 2.5 kW output. The fan has 10 meter diameter with the pole height from base to fulcrum of 20 meters. The wind turbine generator system is designed to supply electricity for the Base Station (Stand Alone) and reallocate the generated electricity to State’s power grid. (Grid Connection) Therefore, the generated electricity can be released to power lighting system of public park in Ban Amphoe beach for the benefits of people and tourists. This Base Station covers the area of Ban Amphoe beach and vicinity with the construction budget of 4.5 million Baht.”
Wichian concluded “One of our proud performances is the Wind Turbine Base Station in Ban Amphoe beach which not only help generate electricity for community benefits, but also situates as a landmark in Pattaya for tourist visits. AIS will continue to develop network under the concept Green Network, in considering of geographical rationale and local requirements. We realize that the global warming reduction campaign is the responsibility of every human on earth. We, AIS, have to continually give constructive cooperation in order to preserve the environments for our offspring to live happily and sustainably.”
