Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) recently organized a major blood donation “Give Blood — Save Lives” in association with the Thai Red Cross Society, as a part of the company’s global campaign “International Days of Caring 2009”. A large number of both Thai and expatriate staffs gladly donated blood.
The activity “Give Blood - Save Lives” was a major activity in South East Asia Regional Unit of Alcatel-Lucent’s “International Days of Caring 2209” is the company’s signature worldwide volunteering initiative for all employees around the world. The program underscores Alcatel-Lucent’s commitment to social responsibility, one of the company’s core values, in the countries and territories where it operates and does business. Teams of volunteers from virtually all of the company's global locations engage in such activities around the world as diverse as educational projects in China, leadership and educational programs for girls in Latin America, Run and Walk for Handicap International in France, Habitat for Humanity in Cambodia, among many others.

Alcatel-Lucent’s social contribution projects in Thailand:
Alcatel-Lucent’s programs have always been geared towards Thailand’s sustainable development. To celebrate the 80th year of His Majesty the King, it has developed “Self-Directed Learning” program in 2007-2008 to support its long-term commitment “Broadband for All” to play a vital role in the sustainable development of Thai communities. During the program, Alcatel-Lucent has provided e-learning expert lectures, tutorial programs, network environment, notebooks and desktops, broadband connections, printers, plus other learning tools to a total of 8 schools in Thailand. It has also built a library at Ban Pa Samran School in Mae Hong Son Province in November 2006 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King. Prior to that, the company granted 88 students from Suranaree University of Technology totaling 6,864,000Baht in 1999-2001, and donated USD440,980 to the National Council for Child and Youth Development and 4.3Million Baht to provide relief in the areas that were hit by the tsunami in 2005.
