BarSu, Bangkok’s stylish club has added a tempting choice of gourmet cheeses to its cutting-edge menu. The platter includes Taleggio, Brie de Meaux, Parmigiano Reggiano, Gorgonzola and Roquefort; the perfect accompaniment to BarSu’s wide range of New and Old World wines.
Taleggio is a semi-soft, washed-rind cheese from the Valtaleggio region in northern Italy. It is characteristically aromatic yet mild in flavour. Its soft texture, pungent aroma, and buttery flavours mean that it pairs nicely with Italian wines, as well as a wide range of reds and whites.
Brie de Meaux is regarded as one of the kings of cheese. It has a smooth, voluptuous texture and a complex nutty, flavour. Like fine wine, this cheese owes its complexity and character to the unique combination of climate and micro-flora of the Brie region in France. If you are in the mood for a celebration, Brie is perfectly matched with Champagne! A red Bordeaux or Burgundy is also an excellent choice to compliment this delicious cheese.
Parmigiano-Reggiano is a medium-fat cheese made partly from skimmed, unpasteurized cow's milk. Its production in Italy is strictly limited to the provinces of Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Bologna to the west of the Reno River and Mantua to the east of the Po River. The long aging process gives this cheese a complex fruity/nutty taste. Ideal wines to accompany Parmigiano-Reggiano include Italian Chianti Riserva and Super Tuscans.
Gorgonzola is an Italian cows' milk cheese that takes its name from a village outside of Milan. Production of this renowned cheese dates back to the 9th century. Semi-soft and creamy when young, green-veined Gorgonzola ages into a pungent, crumbly cheese and is the perfect accompaniment with bold reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Amarone. It is also excellent with Port.
Roquefort is a pungent blue cheese named after the village of Roquefort in Aveyron, southern France. The cheese is made using ewe's milk and is matured in caves for several months. The taste is complex, creamy and soft, and it is the perfect accompaniment to sweet wines such as Muscat, Port or Sauternes.
