Felton Road from Central Otago, New Zealand has been established since 1991. Its vineyards are nestled into small macroclimates north-facing slope and surrounded by high mountains. Though the location is on the edge of sustainable viticulture these macroclimates consistently combine hot days, cool nights and long dry autumns: perfect for the creation of fine Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Since 2002 Walter and Nigel Greening, an innovative owner, have been managing the vineyards organically and biodynamically which are currently being certified by Demeter. All grapes are carefully hand picked, keeping separate any quality differences within blocks due to clones, rootstocks and viticultural trials. Therefore several publications have reviewed their dedicated works include Decanter, eRobertParket.com, International Wine Cellar, Wine Enthusiast, Winewise and Parker’s wine buyer’s guide 7th edition, October 2008 rated Felton Road top outstanding 5 News Zealand’s Best produc ers.
“It seemed to be that in London, whenever there is a tasting designed to challenge the supremacy of Burgundy, it is usually a Felton Road that is ushered into the ring, floats like butterfly and out-classes its bloated Old World champions”, says Neal Martin — The wine advocate.
