The recent visit to Tata Motors’ operation in India by Thailand’s Minister of Industry Mr. Charnchai Chairungrueng has paved the way for new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
The Industry Minister and the BOI delegation met with Mr. P M Telang, Managing Director, Tata Motors during their recent visit to India. The delegation visited the Tata Motors Pune facility where they had an opportunity to test drive and view the current range of products.
The Industry Minister was impressed with the entire vehicle ranges, from the new World Truck commercial vehicles, CNG bus range, Defence vehicles, Ace small commercial vehicle, Xenon pickup range, Indica passenger car range, to the Nano small car which has drawn over 203,000 fully-paid bookings amounting to nearly Rs. 250 billion, in an encouraging response to the car launched on March 23, 2009.
The Thai Industry Minister also expressed interest in exploring opportunities for Thailand for Tata Motors products, while Tata Motors reiterated our long term commitment to the Thai market and indicated our readiness to collaborate with the Thai government and to find optimum solutions for the Thai consumer.
In Thailand, Tata Motors has made its presence as a companion for business operators by constantly developing income-generating commercial pickups, namely the Tata Xenon, the Xenon Super CNG, and the single-cab Xenon with giant flat load body. These vehicles were developed with an intention to deliver not only satisfying performance, but also fuel efficiency and low maintenance costs.
We are committed to be a part of the Thai automobile industry, with plans to extend our product lines to include commercial trucks and buses as well as eco-friendly, affordable small cars.
Tata Motors Thailand has made an initial investment of Bt1.5 billion for the production of the Xenon pickup range. The company has received BOI approval for the eco car project and is on track to make further investments to expand the business operations. The eco car is currently under development using insights from interactions with prospective Thai consumers.
