White Wines
The Sauvignon Blanc, Two Oceans from South Africa is an elegant but crisp wine with ripe, gooseberry flavours on the fore palate backed by tropical fruits and a hint of grassiness that lingers long on the aftertaste. Its crispness makes it especially an ideal companion to fish and light poultry dishes.
The Lindemans’ Chardonnay Cawarra from Australia offers fresh ripe melon and peach fruit aromas with a touch of cream and spice on the nose while the palate displays a variety of peaches, melons and citrus fruits finishing with fresh, zesty acid. This full flavoured wine with a rich mid-palate and subtle creamy oak is ideally suited as an Aperitif, with chicken and pasta dishes and can be enjoyed at any occasion on its own.
The first featured white wine is Verdejo Viura, Marques de Riscal from Spain. This wine is similar in taste to a grassy Sauvignon Blanc. This delicious Spanish white made from locally grown grapes the Verdejo and Viura, makes a good pairing with fish, shellfish, ham, pasta, chicken and cold meats due to its clean crisp profile.
Red Wines
France’s Cabernet Sauvignon Michel Lynch Bordeaux is the start of the red wine appreciation journey for this tasting. This red wine, made from the best terroirs in Bordeaux combines the richness of wines from the left bank of the Garonne (M้doc and Graves), with the roundness of right bank wines (Fronsac, C๔tes de Castillon, and C๔tes de Blaye) to produce a wonderfully balanced expression of the best that the beautiful Bordeaux region can produce.
Our next selection takes you to the vineyard of Chile where the Cabernet Sauvignon, Sunrise, Concha y Toro is produced. A wine of brilliant red with violet touches, it has hints of blackberries, cassis, dry plums and vanilla and has a prolonged taste on the palate, good body and harmoniously offers a balanced finish. Enjoy this fine Cabernet Sauvignon with grilled and barbecued red meats, roasts, and savoury Italian foods.
We end this unique journey in Italy with the Cabernet Sangiovese, Col di Sasso, Castello Banfi. Col di Sasso, which translates to "Stony Hill," which is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese grapes cultivated on the most rocky and impervious slopes of the Banfi estate in Montalcino, Tuscany. The Sangiovese imparts body while stainless steel aged Cabernet Sauvignon adds fruit and structure. Col di Sasso is a supple, ripe and medium bodied red to be enjoyed with grilled or roasted meats, poultry, or as an ideal accompaniment to pasta with meat sauce and mildly piquant cheeses.
