As such, we want to give consumers in these countries the chance to really experience all that Windows Mobile has to offer for themselves. “Currently the top handset manufacturers are maintaining a strong presence in Thailand and there is strong local consumer demand for the latest mobile technologies. Windows Mobile has been a key force behind this growth right from the beginning and we will continue to feed the market with our own latest innovations that bring together professional and entertainment uses into one device and deliver a winning mobile experience for every type of user,” continued Lisa Lam. Furthermore, as more and more people embrace Windows Mobile there is a burgeoning Windows mobile community, with millions of developers and users around the world working together to create customizable tools and add-ons that further enhance the Windows Mobile experience. Today there are over 20,000 applications, tools and games available for Windows Mobile devices, with many of these innovations being developed here in Thailand. Microsoft Thailand has set up a Windows Mobile application contest for Thai university students with the winning application to be developed as an official Windows Mobile application. On hand to showcase some of the latest features and benefits of Windows Mobile was David Tse, Regional Channel Marketing Manager, Mobile Communication Business, Microsoft, who shared some insights into the developments behind the scenes of Windows Mobile. “The Windows Mobile platform has evolved dramatically over the last few years and Windows Mobile 6.1 is now really bringing the power of the PC and the internet to your mobile device. Our goal has been to deliver greater mobility and choice with a rich experience for every type of user, whether they mostly use their phone for business emails or sharing their lives with friends. As such, Windows Mobile now offers more customizability than ever before and with the latest generation of Windows Live services that are available with Windows Mobile 6.1 there is a whole range of new social networking applications and games that are a big draw for the general consumer market. “At Microsoft we believe that the smartphone is no longer a niche segment, but rather a mainstream mobile device category that must evolve in line with the growing trends for internet services, messaging and social-networking on the move. Customers with mobile devices are demanding more functionalities to have their desired information anytime and anywhere, whether it be browsing the internet in the same way you would with a PC, staying connected through business or personal emails, or staying in touch with your social community through Facebook or Windows Live Messenger. It is this world of user benefits that we are capturing with the Windows Mobile experience and we are looking forward to bringing this to more mobile users in Thailand,” concluded David Tse. The Windows Mobile Experience Tour: 5 Days in Bangkok is being held outside Central World Bangkok from the 10 — 14th June, 2009.
