Canon continues to break new ground, and its new masterpiece is a 15.1 mega-pixel EOS 500D. It’s the first entry-level DSLR camera that can take both still images and Full HD video, extending Canon’s lead in DSLR segment with top class performance and innovative features at a truly affordable price.

The EOS 500D hosts Canon’s most advanced professional features and innovative functions. Beginners can accomplish the most complicated tasks with the same ease as professionals. Its APS-C-sized CMOS sensor offering 15.1-megapixel resolution, the highest in its DSLR class, will capture everything from the finest colour gradations to the tiniest image detail and effectively reduce noise under the high ISO situations.
The revolutionary Digic 4 image processor from Canon provides greater signal processing speed and 14-bit A/D signal conversion rate, delivering lifelike colour reproduction, superior tonal graduation and a wider dynamic range. Canon’s proprietary Digic 4 endows EOS 500D with a continuous shooting speed of 3.4 frames per second up to 170 JPEG. Performance under low-light conditions has also been improved, and users can freely adjust ISO range up to 12800.
First Full High Definition recording function in entry-level DSLR
Sometimes you want more than still images to record your precious moments, and the new Full HD movie recording function will help capture all the special memories of your life. Combining the powerful image capture abilities of a camcorder, the EOS 500D is capable of delivering high quality HD movies at standard 640x480, HD 1280x720, and Full HD 1920x1080.
Recording video in a high ISO situation without noise is made easy even in the night, with the Digic 4 processor and CMOS sensor. Stills can also be captures while shooting movies. For playback, the EOS 500D is equipped with both conventional A/V Out terminal, as well as HDMI output that allow the camera to be connected to today’s HD screen TVs.
Set up into the creative world with unlimited angles
Users can see sharper images and precisely check focus points with the improved 3-inch Clear View LCD screen offering 920,000 pixels. With two special coatings to reduce glare and resist smudging and 7-level brightness adjustment, picture review is now much easier and more precise. Other new features include Creative Auto mode that allows novices to exercise greater creative control by changing the camera setting with a graphical, user-friendly interface; and improved Customs Functions that have been expanded to allow an even greater degree of customization.
Another dramatic improvement in EOS 500D is Live View Shooting Mode which enables real-time viewing of images on high resolution screen capable of capturing a full 170 degrees. It has three auto-focus modes: Quick Mode for fast focussing, Live Mode for close-ups and self-timer shooting, and the newly developed Face Detection Live Mode capable of focussing on up to 35 faces at a time while working with the Auto Lighting Optimizer for perfect, bright photography. 500D also comes with Remote Live View function showing images before shooting, and a system enabling image setting by computer.
Nine cross-type auto focus points cover wider angles for shooting fast movements, particularly when working with f/2.8 or more lens.
Other advanced features in the EOS 500D are lens peripheral illumination auto correction using lens data to automatically correct the excessive vignetting, and this achieve even brightness and saturation across the whole frame; and four modes of light metering to help users create beautiful pictures whatever the light conditions.
EOS 500D is fully compatible with Canon’s more than 60 different EF and EF-S lens and most EOS systems. The ideal pairing for it is the new 145g. Speedlite 270EX flash designed to be very compact and powered by just two AA batteries. Speedlite 270EX also can be widely articulated from 60-90 degrees for bounce flash.
