Background and principles
The creative or digital content industry has been growing at a rapid pace for the past 10 years. This is evident when looking at the figures of some of the industry’s most profitable divisions; the global animation industry is valued at $US 60 billion and the games industry at $ US 33 billion. Both the public and private sectors of several countries have outlined strategies to leverage and strengthen this industry for global competitiveness and sustainability.
Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA), under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Thailand, was launched to promote the software and the digital content industry. For the past 5 years, the Thai animation and game industry has grown by at least 15% per year. Many companies have been showcased abroad and are well-recognized internationally. Even though it is clear that Thailand is strong in the area of creativity, it lacks business operators. This does not keep Thais from aiming high though, and the Thai people have a goal for Thailand to be a production, co-production and even outsourcing base for Asia as well as internationally. The benefits of accomplishing this task would be many; Thailand would function as a networking base for Asian companies, as well as generating revenue to boost the Thai economy.
During the global economic slump, Asian countries should join hands together to build robust alliances. With this in mind, SIPA and DEP has organized the first ever ASIAN business matching for creative economy (ACE 2009) which will be held at Phuket, Thailand during 22nd -26th June 2009. This event will support Creative Economy policies, and will be the first time ever a business matching event has been conducted in Thailand. This event has been designed to help create networking among Creative businesses involved in animation, games and digital content, and it is expected that this event will help Thailand in outsourcing service, as well as helping to revive the Thai economy through creativity.
การจัดงาน Asia Business Matching for Creative Economy หรืองาน ACE 2009 นี้เป็นการร่วมมือระหว่าง SIPA และ กรมส่งเสริมการส่งออก กระทรวงพาณิชย์ ร่วมกันจัดขึ้น โดยได้เชิญตัวแทนจากทางภาครัฐและเอกชนจากประเทศในภูมิภาคเอเชียรวมทั้งสิ้น 9 ประเทศ คือ จีน ญี่ปุ่น เกาหลี ฟิลิปปินส์ ฮ่องกง มาเลเซีย สิงคโปร์ ลาว และประเทศไทย โดยมีบริษัทผู้ประกอบในอุตสาหกรรมจากทั้ง 9 ประเทศเข้าร่วมในการจับคู่เจรจาทางธุรกิจรวมทั้งสิ้น 80 บริษัท ซึ่งงานครั้งนี้จัดขึ้นที่จังหวัดภูเก็ต ระหว่างวันที่ 23 — 25 มิถุนายน 2552
